Virgil

The Silver Tongued, The Sun’s Forsaken Son

"Even a flame leaves a shadow when it walks too far from its source."
— Unknown

Virgil is one of the oldest gods of the Ignari, an ancient sun-bound pantheon. Charismatic and dangerous, he was once a vibrant and revered figure, he now lingers as a sun-cursed exile, shunned even by the ruins of his past.

Bound by a powerful curse, Virgil rapidly ages in direct sunlight, a punishment as he says for slaying the God-Monarch of the Ailia. With one eye burned blind by magical overreach, and his immortal pride fractured, he was last seen prowling the shadowed outskirts of Vantasil’s Cradle with the painting of his daughter Joan.

Appearance

Virgil appears as a 4 meter tall, ashen-skinned figure draped in black with blood spilling out. His right eye is hidden under leather bandages and his left eye is glowing in a pale light. His voice is hypnotic, each word tinged with magic and regret.

Abilities

  • Sun-Touched Eloquence: His voice can sway the will of mortals and monsters alike.
  • Cursed Sunbane: Exposure to sunlight causes immediate and irreversible aging; even indirect contact (such as magically extending his sight into sunlit places) is dangerous.
  • Sphere of Protection: He can create a sphere which neither enemies nor rain can penetrate.
  • Illusory Glamour: Virgil can offer shape-shifting (e.g., into Lizard-Kin) or invisibility.
  • Psionic Sword: He can forge an invisible sword which strikes his enemies with great power.
  • Feast of Vitality: A potent magical banquet that restores youth and vigor.

Personality

Virgil is mournful but honorable. He does not manipulate—he invites, and seems to know when others don't meet him in truth.

He is burdened by Weltschmerz, the pain of seeing how far the world falls short of what it could be. He holds no illusions about power, and little patience for petty ambition.

Though distrusted by some for his Ignari origin, Virgil holds to his word absolutely. He expects the same of others—especially other gods, whom he sees as bound by duty to speak with care.
