The 20 Duchies
The 20 Duchies are a group of 20 states that were formed together into a united kingdom in 441AC (after collapse). The main duchies were Fenwick, Dimcolt, Norport, Middenyaw, Greybank and Westmarsh. During the unification Fenwick and Greybank formed an alliance and defeated the rest so the capital is in Fenwick. in the middle of the kingdom is an enclave of elves from the collapse, they do not let anyone into the forests and rarely leave its confines, multiple attempts have been made to take the forest to little avail.
The current date is 524AC.
Structure
The Duchies are run by a king, but each of the main duchies have more freedom and are run by their own ruling family.
Assets
The duchies have most resources. Fenwick and Westmarsh have the most food and land. Greybank and Dimcolt have iron and coal. Middenyaw has wood and farms. Norport has diamonds and iron and coal.
History
Before the war the duchies were all separate.
The war of unification:
436 - Fenwick and Greybank form an alliance, the solidify this by marriage. The combined armies take the land between them and Westmarsh quickly falls.
437 - After the victory against the western duchies Middenyaw and its surroundings capitulate for favorable treatment after and become part of the kingdom.
438 - The duchy of Brightmeer goes back on its deal to make peace and starts a small rebellion which lasts for a while whilst Fenwick and Greybank marshal their forces, it is eventually put down savagely and the ruling family of Brightmeer executed.
439, 440 - This distraction allows Dimcolt and Norport to for an alliance and fortify their defenses. Dimcolt is attacked first and the fighting is hard as the mountainous terrain and hard spirit of the defenders slows the advance, but the numbers of Fenwick and Westmarsh combines with the weapons and skill of Greybank slowly force them into surrender. Norport attack back and retakes some of the mountains.
441 - The war drags on as Fenwick and Greybank spend time consolidating their gains whist Norport launches raids into their land.
442 - The armies of Fenwick and Greybank with help form Middenyaw and Westmarsh attack Norport and defeat its army and force a surrender.
Military
The military is spread out with the best military belonging to Dimcolt and Greybank, they have the best technology bu are lacking in troops. Whereas Fenwick and Middenyaw have many troops of low quality.
