Midtown Fire (S1:E3)
Late Spring, 2020
Midtown, Freedom City
Gas lines in a Midtown neighborhood have ruptured, causing one apartment complex to catch fire. First on the scene is a veteran FCPD sergeant and a rookie officer who were patroling nearby. By the time the Blue Comet appears on the scene, the entire building is burning out of control. Most of the building’s tenants have managed to evacuate to safety but Officer Billy Chen ran inside the burning apartment to save trapped tenants. Firefighters are on their way but may not arrive in time to save the building or those trapped inside.
Ron Cobbler, AKA the Blue Comet, recently purchased a police scanner. While the scanner was on, Ron spent the better part of a late Friday afternoon searching online for information regarding any of the people he knew in Emerald City, like members of the Emerald Defenders. If this Earth-Prime was not the same Earth-Prime he came from, Ron wondered if any of the people he knew would exist in this world. His initial search revealed that Mistress Sage existed in this world. However, she was a mystic metahero who was married to another mystic metahero named Battlemage. It seemed the mystic duo have been battling both mystical and supernatural crimes and metavillains for over a year. Although the two have been seen in many places around the world, they've been spotted mostly in Freedom City. Ron wondered if Mistress Sage kept her mystical mansion somewhere in Freedom City. He would have to look into it more. More online searching revealed that the Dark Archer, a metahero he once met in Emerald City, also existed in Freedom City. Local news showed that the Dark Archer was considered by some in Freedom City as a local hero who fought against the city's criminal underworld, while the police considered Dark Archer a vigilante. Ron was going to keep searching for the existence of other members of the Emerald Defenders when he heard the police scanner report an apartment fire raging out of control in Midtown, a few blocks from City Center. He heard a police officer say that three tenants were still trapped inside the building, including an officer. Donning the Blue Comet suit he helped design, which Marstech made, Ron sped off towards Midtown. When he arrived seconds later, the firefighters had not arrived yet although he could hear them getting close. Looking at the apartment building on fire, the Blue Comet wondered if the building would last long enough for the firefighters to save it or those still inside. He asked the police sergeant he saw talking to tenants on the sidewalk if he knew where the trapped victims were inside. The sergeant asked who he was then indicated that the rookie officer ran up to the third floor to find a young girl named Gladys whose mother said may still be in her room. Another tenant, a Middle Eastern woman named Ziri Basha was heard yelling for help inside her second-floor apartment. Unfortunately, other tenants couldn't get to her because of the fire, heat, and smoke. Also, the building's superintendent, a man named Schneider ran down to the basement to make sure no one was down there and to shut off gas lines, but no one saw him make it out of the building. The Blue Comet, in a flash, sped inside the burning building. As he sped through the building searching every apartment he could while dodging fiery debris, and withstanding extreme heat and thick smoke, the Blue Comet managed to save every trapped person the sergeant mentioned, carrying each of them outside one at a time to awaiting paramedics. As the Blue Comet came out of the building carrying Schneider, whom he found unconscious, the entire apartment building collapsed behind them both. A blast of hot air threw the Blue Comet onto the pavement. He shielded Schneider's body with his own as best he could. The crowd and first-responders cheered as the Blue Comet got up, still holding the superintendent's unconscious form, and laid him onto an awaiting gurney. Sergeant Wiseman went over to him shook the Blue Comet's hands, thanking him for saving not only Officer Chen's but the three others as well. The Blue Comet said he was just doing what he could as part of the team. Before a news crew could stop him for an interview, the Blue Comet sped away leaving a blue streak in his wake.
