Ghost Pirates of the Caribbean - S1:E7

Late Spring, 2020   Tortuga Island, Haiti     Jonathan Rolland (AKA Kid Shadow) spent Spring Break with his parents on Tortuga Island in Haiti. It was supposed to be a relaxing spring break vacation for the family. But soon, even an island in the Caribbean is going to need the help of Kid Shadow and a metahero named Miss Kitty to save vacationers from the cursed pirate crew of The Black Plunder.
Jonathan Rolland went with his mother and father on a vacation to the island of Tortuga in Haiti for spring break.   It was a vacation his mother, Rina Rolland had been looking towards to since his father, Richard Rolland, had booked the trip. Richard Rolland was also looking forward to getting away from the grueling job of being a detective in the Freedom City Police Department.   His mother worked at the central branch of the Eastern Seaboard, or E-Sea, Bank in downtown Freedom City. Although she had just recently started working at this particular branch, she had been with Eastern Seaboard Bank for nearly eighteen years.   The Rollands, a family of three, had moved to Freedom City after uprooting from Angel City on the West Coast. Jonathan's mother had been given a promotion as a bank manager but it meant having to move to Freedom City. His father, fortunately, had a friend in FCPD and was happy to put in a good word for him. Having had decades of experience as a detective in Angel City PD, it wasn't much of a change for his father to transfer and become one of Freedom City's finest.       The concert on the beach put on by Ocean Boys was an added fun for Jonathan's parents. His parents were both fans of the Ocean Boys and their surfing-style 50s music. The Ocean Boys were scheduled to perform in Tortuga for two nights before continuing on to Jamaica as part of their Caribbean-Ocean Boys Concert Tour.   They had already spent three days in Tortuga Bay.   At first, Jonathan didn't think he would enjoy vacationing on a small island. But seeing the many Spanish and French ruins on the island was really fun for him. He especially loved hearing the French and English pirate stories. Plus, Jonathan loved going to the beach and there were certainly plenty of beaches on Tortuga for a kid like him to enjoy.     It was during the last night's Ocean Boys concert that the attack happened.   Jonathan and his parents were seated on beach blankets right in front of a huge stage set up on the beach for the Ocean Boys to perform on.   There were plenty of people there to enjoy a nice warm evening. Most like the Rollands, it would be their last night's stay in Tortuga before heading back home before the last weekend of spring break.   At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.   The music coming from the stage was loud and everyone was having a good time.   Suddenly the sounds of people screaming started to drown out the Ocean Boys' music as they were singing the last chorus of "Help Me, Linda".   Panicked people came running from the direction of the water, screaming.   Jonathan's father stopped one nearly-hysterical man and asked what was going on. The man wasn't making much sense. Jonathan thought he heard the man said that ghost pirates were coming out of the surf and attacking people. He said the ghost pirates looked like faintly glowing skeletons armed with swords and dressed in tattered pirate gear and clothing.   The man screamed for everyone to run away from the beach.   Jonathan's father turned to Jonathan. "Jonathan, I know this was supposed to be a vacation," he said. "But we need to help these people off the beach. I don't want to put you in a dangerous position, but maybe as Kid Shadow you can do something to help."   Jonathan nodded. He was scared. But he couldn't just run away while people were in danger. He wasn't sure what he could do against ghost pirates. But he had to try something.   Luckily, his mother packed his Kid Shadow suit.   He followed his parents until he reached the nearby bathrooms and changing rooms. Lucky for him the changing room was empty. Everyone was running away from the beach, so Jonathan knew the bench would be empty of people soon.   After changing into Kid Shadow, he ran back towards the beach.   What he saw shocked him.   Several ghostly skeletal figures were moving around the sandy beach waving spectral swords in the air.   Suddenly from the crashing surf emerged a figure dressed like a pirate captain! He was flanked by two more ghost pirates armed with curved swords. Jonathan knew the swords were called cutlasses, deadly curved swords favored by many pirates.   The pirate captain held a cutlass also. But in his other hand, he was holding a flintlock pistol which he was using to point towards the beach. "Hear me, mateys," the pirate captain yelled. "We're gonna plunder this settlement for any treasures of mystic powers! Keep yer eyes peeled, me hearties. An extra case o' rum to any crewman who finds me an item of mystic power. And slay anyone that gits in yer way!"   With that command, several ghostly pirates charged up the beach toward Kid Shadow.   "Need some help?" a female voice said behind Kid Shadow. He turned around to see a young girl standing on the edge of the stage. She didn't look older than any of the girls in his high school classes back in Claremont Academy. She had striking pink hair and was wearing a skin tight costume that made her look like a cat. She looked athletic. "I'm Miss Kitty."   Kid Shadow introduced himself and asked Miss Kitty if she knew how to fight ghosts.   She shook her head.       However, the two metaheroes soon learned that ghosts, even pirate ghosts, could be fought and even defeated.   But they fought back. Despite being armed with spectral cutlasses, whenever Kid Shadow or Miss Kitty was hit, it felt like getting hit with a real sword!   The two metaheroes fought with tenacity.   With each punch, kick, and a swipe of a claw by Miss Kitty, each ghost she struck blew up in a puff of green smoky ectoplasm.   Kid Shadow, too, was doing his part. He kicked, punched, and threw shadow bolts at multiple pirate ghosts. Each solid hit causing a pirate ghost to scream and dissipate in an audible puff of greenish smoke.   But the fight against Captain Blood wasn't as easy.   He proved to be much tougher.   It took Kid Shadow and Miss Kitty working together as a team to finally defeat Captain Blood who, because he was able to fly, kept out of melee range. The ghostly pirate captain instead resorted to shooting at the metaheroes with his phantom flintlock.   Near the end of the battle, Miss Kitty was incapacitated by shot by Captain Blood.   However, Kid Shadow bested Captain Blood by striking him with his shadow bolts.   Captain Blood screamed in rage as his form dissolved. Before completely disappearing, he vowed to return someday and exact his revenge on those who had defeated him and his crew.   In the ocean, a good distance from shore, Kid Shadow saw the ghost pirates' spectral ship begin to fade away also.       Kid Shadow immediately went to check on Miss Kitty. By the looks of it, she was already beginning to regain consciousness. Kid Shadow knew she was going to be fine soon enough.   Miss Kitty asked if they won. Kid Shadow told her they did.   Miss Kitty said, however, that Captain Blood won't stay gone for too long. She said she had heard about the curse of Captain Blood during one of the tours she and her family had been on.   According to the tour guide, the crew of The Black Plunder, led by Captain Jonathan "Bloody Jack" Carter, occasionally materializes and wreaks havoc on Atlantic shipping with its periodic raids. Despite people getting hurt, or even killed by his crew, Captain Blood never seemed interested in worldly trinkets or monetary wealth. Instead, he seemed to be seeking treasures of mystic powers that can help undo the curse placed upon him and his crew. It's not entirely certain who placed the curse on Captain Blood in the first place. Some say it was Baron Samedi, a powerful Voodoo priest, who cursed the crew of The Black Plunder.   The tour guide added that although it's not known how anyone can permanently put Captain Blood and his crew to their eternal rest, they can be defeated. Other metaheroes have done so in the past decade or more since The Black Plunder had been seen sailing the waters near Haiti.   But with each defeat, Captain Blood and his crew are banished from the world of the living for three full turns of the moon. On the third full moon, they return on mysterious tides from elsewhere to resume their career of terror on the high seas.   Kid Shadow now wished he could stay long enough to find the means of permanently defeating Captain Blood. He didn't like knowing that in a few months, the ghost pirates would return to attack innocent civilians or cargo ships. But there was nothing he could do for now. His vacation was coming to an end. Tomorrow, he and his parents would be on their way back to Freedom City.   Miss Kitty said bye to Kid Shadow and hoped to someday fight another villain with him. She quickly sprinted down the beach and disappeared from sight.   Kid Shadow liked the idea of fighting alongside Miss Kitty someday. They did make an awesome team, after all.   Kid Shadow took one more glance towards the full moon overhead.   At least he was able to put a stop to Captain Blood's reign of terror, even if it was only temporary.   Before Kid Shadow left to find his parents, he promised to someday return to Tortuga and find a way of permanently stopping the crew of The Black Plunder from ever hurting anyone again.
