Kyarnal Valley
Kyarnal Valley is an expansive stretch of badlands that borders the Wreck Plains and the Alawhazi Marshes.
Among the red rocks, small communities of gnomes live in secrecy, tinkering with ancient technology scavenged from the Wreck Plains. For the most part, they leave others alone and would prefer to be left alone. The altruistic people of Kyarnal Valley are under constant threat from the Alawhazi Marshes in the form of yuan-ti spies trying to steal their secrets. Additionally, duergar slavers from the Ash Peaks are deeply covetous of the gnomes tinkering skills and would gladly put those skills to use on war machines. As such, they hide their homes in the rocks, guarded by rockfalls and pit traps, along with other ingenious traps, like tripwires, snares, and nets. Scout posts give advanced warning about caravans, raiders, and other threats. Winds blowing in from the western Dune Sea allow the construction of windmills and turbines to provide power. The rock gnomes use this power to experiment with new technologies and to power wondrous contraptions. Apart from the gnomes, groups of bandits and raiders also use the nooks and crannies of Kyarnal Valley as hideouts. They lurk in camps off the Old Road , waiting for unsuspecting travelers and caravans.
