Dune Sea

The vast Dune Sea is an expanse of white sand that expands on all sides of the wastes.   The Dune Sea isn't just sand, though. Scraptowns punctuate the dunes, built in the shelter of wind-blasted rocks. Scraptowns are ruled by scavver barons, who control the resources of the town. These settlements most often run on the company town model, where the workers receive tickets which they exchange for food, water, and other necessities.   The scavver barons have reverse-engineered a brilliant invention from ancient designs-- a flying machine built from repurposed parts, allowing scavengers to fly above the wasteland and search for valuable caches of scrap from above. These machines, which run very efficiently on ancient cores, can be used for surveying and hauling, and don't require food or rest like ygma do. This said, ygma are still used by more than a few scrappers and travelers in the Dune Sea.

Localized Phenomena

The Dune Sea is inhospitable, barren of life, and plagued by deadly sandstorms. These storms make navigation difficult for experienced travelers, and impossible for greenhorns.

Natural Resources

Beneath the dunes, troves of ancient treasure are waiting to be unearthed. Ancient seafaring ships carrying valuable supplies of metal and ancient power cores are buried in the sand, promising wealth to prospectors who can find them.

History

Before the Flood, the Dune Sea was believed to be an enormous body of water. It has since dried up, leaving only sand and bleached bones behind. Some believe that oceans of water are still out there somewhere beyond the Dune Sea, and that there are other lands far away across that expanse of sand.
