Ash Peaks
Vast, smoking mountains tower over the land, billowing greasy ash and embers. Pools of molten rock bubble up from underground reservoirs, and elementals lurk amidst the sulfur plumes.
What creatures would possibly choose to live in such a place? Only the grey dwarves, whose industry and machinery finds a perfect home here. The volcanoes have much to offer in the way of precious gems and minerals, to those determined enough to obtain them.
The Ash Peaks form a semicircle around the northern edge of the map, a foreboding wall of volcanic mountains. The mountains border several regions, including the Demon Wastes, the Alawhazi Marshes , and the Dune Sea .
Localized Phenomena
Ash storms are dangerous to all travelers in this region. When whirlwinds kick up the toxic ash from the volcanoes, blinding, choking storms are created, lasting anywhere from an hour to multiple days. With hot ash blowing up to 50 mph, breathing and sight are impossible without specialized equipment.
Sometimes these ash storms are amplified into far more dangerous weather events when they pick up molten embers and hot stones. These so-called "firestorms" can kill unprepared wastelanders in minutes.
