Alawhazi Marshes (Ah-lah-hwa-zee Marshes)
The Alawhazi Marshes are a mess of quicksand, brambles, and biting flies. The marshes sprawl across the southeastern region of the wastes, making a wall of dangerous terrain that is largely impassable by foot. This landscape is occasionally dotted with ancient elven ruins from the kingdom of Athra.
This quagmire is sectioned into yuan-ti kingdoms, lizardfolk territories, and camps of outlaws who have fled into the marshes to shake their pursuers. The remaining space is a vast area of trackless swamp unanimously referred to as the Deep Marsh, home only to strange beasts and dangerous plants. The yuan-ti control much of the Alawhazi border, with small keeps and citadels keeping their neighbors, the lizardfolk, at bay. Slaves of the yuan-ti are never pursued into the Deep Marsh, as their slavers know that they’ll meet their end within 24 hours.
The lizardfolk dwell deeper into the Marshes, with several tribal kingdoms clashing for territory and hunting grounds. Their lands are swampier than those of the yuan-ti, by virtue of the fact that they border the Deep Marsh. Outlaw camps are also present in this region of the Marshes, where criminals from citadels and drow settlements band together with escaped slaves to guard one another from their pursuers. These settlements usually attack interlopers on sight, for their own protection, but these people aren't necessarily hostile.
The northern region of the swamp shares borders with the Wreck Plains.
