The Wend Wall

"It's as if Hanshu saw the Ordening and figured: 'Yes, I like that. I'll make my own version, with concubines and a massive army'".
— - Emilie di Rossi

Structure

The Wend Wall is an absolute monarchy ruled by Emperor Hanshu the Manyfaced , a god. The country is run from the court located in Hanshu . Here there exists a complicated bureaucracy. There are government ministers of two dozen different departments with sub-ministers and ministerial secretaries. There are royal eunuchs serving the emperor directly. There are the royal concubines, who enjoy vast but unidentifiable influence. There are a network of lower officials and servants who tend to all manner of business. The City of Hanshu is famous for the number of bureaucrats that live and work in the city. These make up nearly a third of the entire population.   In the provinces various government representatives (ministers of the districts) are posted along with their staffs in every town and village in the country. The Wend Wall is much like The Ordering in keeping tight control with its citizens.

Public Agenda

The Wend Wall sees itself as the prime power in central Pelagus. It seeks to maintain itself in isolation from the other powers. War and excessive trade would only disturb the emperor's rule.

Assets

The Wend Wall is self sufficient in most things.

History

Hanshu the Many Faced broke with the Ordening in 1234. Since then he has consolidated his power and expanded the territories under his control. In 1442 he seized the city of Harperrim from The Apex Republic . In the 16th century the Revolts of the Wall were brutally put down. Since the revolts the realm has trudged along mostly isolated from the turmoil in the world surrounding it.

Demography and Population

The Wend Wall is densely populated. The population is concentrated along the rivers and lakes, but systems of canals irrigate large areas away from the rivers.

Military

The Wend Wall's primary force is The Green Banner Army . This force of 50.000 men is the largest standing army in Renata. The Wend Wall can also call up vast forces of poorly armed militia in times of crisis.

Is it possible for an individual to impersonate an official? (Considering they take up a third of the population)   Why is it called the Wend Wall? Why do they import luxuries?   I love your cover image and your quote box.

Hey! Thank you for your comment!   It is indeed possible to impersonate Officials, pretty easy in fact, but few citizens of The Wend wall even think about doing such a crime, mostly cause they are trained from a young age that "Anyone could be the emperor in disguise", so I'd say they are too frightened to do much crime.   In its native tongue (basically Chinese) its called Wānqū de qiáng, this roughly translates to the Wall that Wends. Over time this became The Wend wall as a play on "Wind Wall" that the Qin Yi mountains have been known as.   Wend wall's weakness is their tech, they don't have the resources or the infrastructure to produce luxury items (Like wine, jewelry etc), yet the courtiers that know the opulence of places like Apex still want these things and pay well for it.   Thanks a bunch for these questions btw, will work on adding these answers into the article when i have time!
