Vrok Mul

Pronunciation: ver-ROCK-mull

Map Index: F3, F4

Location: Northern end of the Kraguk Mountains, central Beorlan

Description: At the northern end of the rugged Kraguk Mountains lies the hidden kingdom of Vrok Mul, the domain of the fearsome Turoch. This savage land, characterized by steep twisting slot canyons, sharp towering pillars of red sandstone, concealed tunnels, and labyrinthine caverns, shelters the formidable Turoch in their fortified cliffside dwellings and battle towers.

The Turoch, relentless in their patrols, sweep swiftly across the plains of Palanlad atop coal black steeds, leaving chaos and death in their wake. Few can withstand the sudden might of the Turoch, with an exception being their archenemies, the centaur-like Ranfaroth, who dwell in the grassy plains of northern Palanlad.

Despite being adept at crafting crude weapons and armor of war, the Turoch have little knowledge of arcane or divine magic. Few among them can read and they know little about the outside world. Instead, they focus upon plundering the ruins of the old forgotten kingdoms along the east coast of Beorlan for resources. This often provides them with weapons and armor that are far beyond their skill in making.

Residents: Once a race of nomadic human horsemen from the southern plains of Beorlan, the Turoch suffered a cruel fate during the Great Cataclysm. The chaotic magic unleashed by the chaos storms warped them beyond recognition. Within a few generations it had transformed them from humans of Kisharan ancestry into gorilla-like humanoids with short black fur, renowned for their violent barbaric nature.

Primary Population: Turoch

Government and Politics: In Vrok Mul, a great overlord rules, but his control is limited by infighting as the tribal chiefs hold the true power within this chaotic society. Tribal leaders often engage in challenges and combat to establish and hold onto positions of leadership. While nominally allied with the goblins of Gok Grusmak, the Turoch regard them as weak inferiors, and show them little respect.

Economy: The economy of Vrok Mul revolves around the ruthless exploitation of resources from others. Lacking the skills to create many items themselves, pillaging goods from others helps transform the Turoch into a formidable force to be reckoned with.

Military: Perched precariously on steep red sandstone canyon walls, the fortified cliffside dwellings of Vrok Mul are an impressive sight. Often concealed from below, they serve as bastions of defense, guarding the kingdom's heart. Scouts and archers maintain watch continuously, ready to attack any outsiders with a hail of arrows from well defended points. Strategically placed traps using concealed pits or large boulders help defend key areas, swiftly killing or capturing unsuspecting intruders. The Turoch are extremely adept at riding horses and can fire their shortbows accurately while at a full gallop. This allows them to strike their enemies quickly before they have time to react.

History: The stronghold of Vrok Mul dates back to the post cataclysm period after the corrupting influence of the chaos storms transformed the citizens of the southernmost khanate into the Turoch. For a short while the Turoch operated as they did in the precataclysm days until the eruption of Krakurod forced them from their ancestral lands. As Turoch scouts traveled the land they came upon the great maze of slot canyons and made them into what they are today.

Today: Vrok Mul stands as a hidden kingdom secreted away in the treacherous rocky terrain of the Kraguk Mountains. The Turoch, transformed by the catastrophic events of the Great Cataclysm, are a violent and barbaric race, feared for their unparalleled cavalry aggression and might. Led by tribal chiefs, their society thrives on combat and plunder, making them a force to be feared and respected in the unforgiving landscapes of Beorlan.
