Kraguk Mountains

Pronunciation: KRAG-uck

Map Index: F3, F4

Location: Central Beorlan

Geography: The Kraguk Mountain Range, a formidable rocky expanse in central Beorlan, serves as a natural divide between the desolate, ash-laden plains of Vornlithdor in the west and the perilous Urwaelin Valley in the east. Weathered and ancient, these mountains bear witness to a tumultuous history. The mountains range from 3,100 to 4,900 feet in elevation. The omnipresent gray sky, a result of Krakurod's continuous eruptions in Vornlithdor, adds an ominous atmosphere.

Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None

Climate: The climate varies, from semitropical scrub in the north to arid desert vegetation in the south, transitioning to tropical scrub at higher elevations.

Wildlife: With the great change in rainfall between the northern and southern parts of the range, the amount of wildlife also differs. In the north, black pathers, longhorn goats, and jackals navigate the lower areas while eagles and vultures soar above the land. In the south, far fewer wild animals call the mountains home due to the goblins tendancy to eat everything they can catch or kill.

Humanoids: At the northern tip of the Kraguk Mountains lies Vrok Mul, the concealed city of the Turoch horse lords. Hidden away in a confusing labyrinth of valleys and canyons, the fortified city boasts daunting defences against potential invaders. In the far south, goblins from Gok Grusmak dominate the mountain landscape with their chaotic hordes swarming over the landscape.

Monsters: The mountain heights harbor fearsome horrors, as malevolent creatures of tremendous evil lurk in the unexplored dark crags. Many of these creatures are products of the chaos storms that once swept through the mountains during the Great Cataclysm.

History: These mountains suffered mightily during the Great Cataclysm. A great crack opened in the earth to the west of the Kraguk Mountains and a mighty volcano began to erupt. Belching black acrid ash and fumes the great volcano steadily grew in size while the skies over the mountains darkened. Great chaos storms swept through this land, corrupting or killing all who failed to escape them. Wildlife is just returning to the land as the chaos storms now rarely strike.

Today: The lingering corruption of the chaos storms persists in the wildlife, humanoid, and monsterous inhabitants, making the Kraguk Mountains a mysterious and treacherous region.
