Description: Once a mighty and prosperous realm, the Chuulonian Empire now stands as a faded shadow of its former glory. Spanning semi-arid lands with a long seacoast, the empire bore the brunt of the Great Cataclysm.

Residents: The land is populated predominately by humans, with small populations of Valmyrri elves found in coastal ports. Throughout its history, the Chuulonian Empire was renowned for its architectural grandeur and cultural achievements. However, the Great Cataclysm cast it into a downward spiral from which it has yet to fully recover.

The chaos storms of the Great Cataclysm hit the empire hard and produced three distinct populations of humanoids. These came from individuals who had become corrupted by the storms and began to permanently change their physical form.

Small populations of Catfolk live along the fringes of the civilized areas. These cat-like humanoids are accepted as members of the empire but often get treated as second class citizens.

The eastern half of the Chuulonian Empire, particularly near the Nhulokk Range, finds populations of Tengu, a crow-like humanoid. A great many migrated into urban areas where they are a minority of the population.

Skinwalkers possess the ability to transform into bestial humanoids, when desired. Living discreetly within the empire while posing as humans, they carefully guard their secret heritage, fearing discovery. Skinwalkers cause great fear when discovered and usually face swift execution by fire.

Primary Population: Chuuli
Secondary Population: Mu, Valmyrri
Minor Population: Ansharri, Movori, Veng

Economy: The empire's economy relies heavily on trade, with ships sailing the seas and caravans traversing neighboring lands. Commerce remains the lifeblood of the Chuulonian Empire, sustaining the fragile relationships with their neighbors. However, rampant corruption hampers the empire's potential, stifling growth and hindering the establishment of secure trade routes.

Government and Politics: The Chuulonian Empire is ruled by a hereditary emperor. However, history reveals that coups, assassinations, and historical events have resulted in many breaks in the dynastic bloodline. While the emperor technically has total control of what goes on in the empire, the true ruling of the empire's business is often handled by viziers and councilors. The current emporer is decadent and would rather fill his days with pomp ceremonies and celebrations than handle to tough day to day decisions of running the empire. As a result his councilors enrich themselves at the publics expense.

The Chuulonian Empire has strained relations with neighboring states. They still believe they are the most important empire and their neighbors resent this attitude. Trade disputes are common problems and are rarly resolved without the proper bribes being paid to Chuulonian authorities.

Military: The Chuulonian Empire's military, mired in weakness and corruption, is a mere shell of its former self. Ill-equipped and ineffectual, the military lacks the strength and discipline needed to properly defend the empire's borders or project its influence beyond them. Instead, the empire relies on diplomacy and the allure of trade to maintain tenuous relationships with neighboring nations. Significant areas of land, once part of the empire, are still enveloped in chaos and far beyond the capablilities of the ineffectual military to reclaim.

History: The Chuulonian Empire was once a rich and powerful empire until the Great Cataclysm unleashed tremendous devastation. The tragic events that unfolded caused significant portions of the highly populated coastal lands to sink beneath the waves, while many of the large and magnificent stone cities farther inland were reduced to rubble by relentless violent earthquakes. Powerful evil monstrosities, summoned by the Movorians, unleashed havoc. However, despite the great tragedy, parts of the empire survived, and slowly began the long arduous process of rebuilding.

Today: The Chuulonian Empire remains a land of faded opulence and dashed dreams. Large parts of the former empire are still outside of governmental control. These lawless areas exist as dangerous wilderness wastelands, filled with monsterous creatures. The landscape itself still bears the scars of a cataclysmic past with old pre-cataclysmic ruins scattered throughout the empire. Many of these ruined structures now serve as havens for lower class peasants who have nowhere else to shelter. Despite their dream to regain their former glory, the empire's people, resilient and determined, continually suffer under the reign of an incompetent, self-aggrandizing emperor. The empire's ruling class, enriched by corruption, consistently fail to make the sacrifices needed to restore this land to its former grandeur. Continual corrupt malfeasance by government officials has left the empire weakened and struggling with tremendous poverty and social inequality. As the empire navigates the treacherous currents of corruption and decay, the people hold onto the hope that one day, their empire will rise again, forging a brighter future from the remnants of its former splendor.
