Venus

Venus is an oceanic planet within Colonized Space. Despite its frequent tropical storms and lack of accessible, natural landforms, the planet is among one of the more successful colonization efforts by the United Earth Confederation and is fairly hospitable to those that can afford to live on it.   Venus's primary purpose is to serve as a vacation destination for wealthy planetary tourists, though those with enough wealth can afford to permanently stay in a luxury condo or estate on one of its many artificial islands. Wealthy investors from Earth's Arabic Peninsula have spearheaded much of the efforts in creating these artificial islands, with one of them housing a city known as "New Dubai."

Geography

Formerly a desert planet, Venus was terraformed and turned into a world completely encompassed in water. All of its natural landforms are submerged, and any land above sea level is artificially placed through colonization efforts.

Localized Phenomena

With the planet being entirely encompassed in water, "fishnados" are a common occurrence, as typhoons and hurricanes with heavy winds stir up a large aquatic population. Anything from small guppies to juvenile whales can be hurled across the ocean during these storms. Historically. these fishnados have resulted in damage to colonization efforts and present a continuous challenge.   Stray settlements within Venus are under attack by an amphibious species known as the Scranqans. Incredibly hostile to all forms of human life and infrastructure, countermeasures have been installed around various resorts and homesteads. Some of these efforts include fields of naval mines, hidden turrets within tourist populated areas. After the discovery was made that trace chemical toxins within dumped pollution from local factories disrupted Scranqan breeding grounds, the UEC quietly reclassified illegal dumping to a Class-C countermeasure.   It is unknown where Scranqans originate from. Some speculate the creatures are not native to Venus, and have extraterrestrial origins. Others suspect them to be an evolution of the drowned species encountered during terraforming.   One outlandish theory suggests that the Scranqans are a mixture of both. During their final plight whilst drowning in their underground caverns during the great terraforming, a dark call came forth. Originating from none other than the slumbering deity known as Azhudrha, the Scranqans eagerly accepted his faustian deal. Transformed into a new beast that can tolerate Venus' new environment, their only requirement was to ensure destruction to the human settlers of Venus.

Climate

Venus hardly experiences any seasonal weather changes. Its climate is akin to the tropics on Earth, consistently hot and humid.

History

Prior to colonization efforts, Venus was thought to be an inhospitable planet devoid of life. Around 2280, UEC colonization efforts began with terraforming missiles being sent to Venus's surface. The main goal of the bombardment was to generate artificial oceans that would allow the land of Venus to be cultivated and settled, the planet a strong candidate as a replacement Earth.   Partially due to a series of missile manufacturing and logistics errors, the terraforming missiles sent to Venus began to excessively water the planet. With the artificial atmosphere growing out of control, UEC project managers watched as the planet was drowning in colossal storms. Much of the planet's surface became visually impenetrable, and for five years, the planet was opaque with storm clouds.   By the end of 2285, the storms had finally ceased on Venus. As UEC surveyors approached the planet, their horror could not be contained. The planet was completely covered in water, but the most disturbing part of it all was the countless bodies floating and sinking in Venus's oceans. The bodies, in varying states of decay, had essentially revealed the harsh truth: there were living beings on Venus who had been drowned to extinction in a mere five years.   The event was deemed an anomaly by UEC scientists, the fact the planet was able to be covered completely in water over a short period of time an impossibility. Although manufacturing and delivery errors were revealed, the blunder still made very little sense and was unable to be explained any further.   Despite the anomalous nature of the event, UEC investors continued on with their colonization efforts. Now, the focus was redirected towards cleaning up any evidence of the native Venusians and establishing artificial islands. By 2295, the UEC completed the first dozen of artificial islands on the planet, with many more underway. Production of the islands accelerated exponentially as more workers and investments filled the project. Now a watery grave for some and a tourist destination for others, Venus tells a strange story that is best left forgotten.
