Mercury
Referred to as the dustbowl of the Sol System, Mercury is a sprawling desert planet home to the less fortunate. This was a result of an initiative pushed forth by UECF executives to try and combat the overpopulation on Earth, offering solar unit bonuses to those willing to move to the infinite desert.
Mercury mostly contains villages scattered about the scorched surface, with a few megacities present the closer to the poles one gets. Canyons and rivers sprinkle about the empty spaces between, but Mercurians rarely stray from populated areas. One motivation to avoid wandering is the ever growing threat of caelus aberrations spawned by anomalous dust storms plaguing the planet. One such Caelus Aberration is referred to by the Cosmic Enterprise as Leviathan-class Subject K888.
With the general lack of human life and UEC presence, crime is rampant in the underground scene of Mercury. The illegal manufacturing of antimatter takes place in remote outposts scattered about the planet, near invisible to most surveillance equipment due to the constantly shifting dunes.
Geography
A landscape of sand and mountainous dunes exposed to harsh sunlight due to the proximity of the sun. However, the occasional oasis and river can be found due to artificial means.
Localized Phenomena
Caelus Dust Storms are a common occurrence on the surface of Mercury. Due to Caelus lingering in the planet's atmosphere after the terraforming process, anomalous behavior mixes with natural movements of the air. This results in a violent vortex of dust and debris that can tamper machinery, in addition to the presence of powerful lightning strikes that leave sizeable craters.
Climate
Mercury has no proper seasons, and remains in a mostly arid state.
History
Mercury was terraformed during the post-singularity period of 2245. The planet proved to be a laborious task even for a terraformer exposed to the most potent of ardor radiation. In this process, Mercury was made a habitable world - at a cost. The average temperature was well over 120 degrees Fahrenheit, resulting in a desert biome. However, the presence of large deposits of ice beneath the surface of the planet's poles proved useful in forming artificial oases.
