496-497 Candelae-Lampian Border War
The Candelae-Lampian Border War, often referred to in Infernia as the War Aginst the World, was a conflict between the Inferno Empire ruled by the Eternia Dynasty and the Collation of Resistance led by the Kingdom of Paradise. Lasting from 4 May 496 to 18 March 497, the conflict was caused primarily by Infernia's determination to reassert its dominant position in Pomo, which appeared in question following the coordinated responses to earlier Infernian acts of aggression.
The Conflict
Prelude
According to many historians, Paradisian Royal Adviser Malca Cue directly and intentionally provoked the Infernians into declaring war on the Collation in order to justify the exploitive nature of Paradise and to end the seemingly never-ending Cold war between the two nations. Many also believe that Malca and the war was simply a pawn in another Paradisian attempt at continued world domination; almost all Paradisian historians say that Malca (like all Deaian leaders) was a hero that led a counter crusade against the "Fire Heathens". All agree that Malca's actions are responsible for the Great Isolation and the Great War.
Deployment
Infernia mobilized its army on 7 May 496, leading the Collation of Resistance to respond with its own mobilization later that day. On 8 May 496, the Infernia Imperial Council voted to declare war on Paradise: Infernia invaded Candelae territory on 12 May.
Conditions
The recently reimposed Enteria government was in favor of a surrender, but with conditions not too harsh. However, Paradisian demands were viewed by many as unaffordable: humongous demilitarization and the renunciation of any and all claims including the one on the Candelae Kingdom. However, the Tenth Magmus Coup resulted in the total acceptance of the demands.
Outcome
A series of swift Paradisian and Candelae victories in eastern Terra Flammae, culminating in the failure of the Siege and Battle of Gata, resulted in the overthrowing of the Eternia Dynasty and the decisive defeat of the army of the Empire; a Leage of Imperial Defense was formed in Mence on 31 June and continued the war for another two months. Candelae forces fought and defeated new Lampian armies in Mence, then besieged the city for over four weeks before it fell on 17 March 497, effectively ending the war.
Aftermath
As a result of the humiliating defeat, the Magmus Dynasty led by Emperor Loge signed a mandate that ordered a complete shutdown of any and all outside influences via any means necessary. This mandate is famously known as Seprata Rula.
Historical Significance
Legacy
With the defeat of all of its rivals, Paradise became the absolute center of a new unipolar world. While for the next few centuries peace and prosparity prevailed, the necessity of Deaian rule became more and more questioned due to no one having a foreign threat to be protected from.
