The Great War

The Great War or the First Great War, began on the 4th of December 990 and ended on 26 January 996. Referred to by contemporaries as the "Final War", its belligerents included Kingdom of Paradise, the Chinza Empire, the United States of Mrance, the Kingdom of Nixland, the Circulus-Candelae Principality, the Zanian Confederated Tribes, Frussia, the Grand Dutchy of Ambulania, Pranavia, the Xeg Tribes, and several separatist movements in Paradise. With fighting expanding into Ledenanemlja, Northwest Terra Flammae, and almost all of Androite; it is considered one of the deadliest conflicts in history, an estimated 3.2 million people were killed in combat, while over 2 million civilians died from bombardment, disease, and starvation. Millions of additional deaths resulted from genocides and force labor camps within the Kingdom of Paradise.   By 990, the Pomoian great powers were divided into the Speic Coalition (More commonly known just as "The Coalition") of Mrance, Ambulania, Frussia, and Nixland; and the Civilized Powers of Paradise, the Circulus-Candelae Principality, and the Holy State of the Dea People. Tensions in Southern Androite came to a head on 27 November 990 following the assassination attempt of Godking Pra Sacra, the Paradisian king, by Udicam West, an ethnic Ambulanian born in what is today known as the Qia Dynasty. Paradise blamed Ambulania, which led to the November Ultimatum, an unsuccessful attempt to avoid conflict through diplomacy. Nixland came to Ambulania's defense following Paradise's declaration of war on the latter on the 4th of December, and by 6 January, the system of alliances drew in Mrance, Circulus-Candelae, and Frussia. In March, Paradise, the Circulus-Candelae Principality, and the Holy State of the Dea People formed the Civilized Powers, while in April 991, Chinza and the Zanian Confederated Tribes decided to join Mrance, Nixland, Frussia, and Ambulania in forming the Allies of The Great War.
