The Highest Holy Order
The Sisterhood of the Hidden Mother is the oldest and most powerful Holy Order in Nova Gloriana. Elevated above all other forms of earthly authority, they do not even answer to the Hierophant. They answer only to the Dread Queen in her official capacity as Mother of the Faith.
Duties
The Sisterhood has two principal duties pertaining to the spiritual life of Nova Gloriana and its citizens - education and healing.
Education
The Sisterhood runs and maintains a number of schools throughout Nova Gloriana. Although they are kept and maintained to a similar standard, the most prestigious school run by the Sisterhood is the one inside the Shrouded City where the children of Nova Gloriana's elite are educated
Although the Sisterhood worships Gloriana in all of her forms, as an Order, they are specifically dedicated to the worship of Gloriana Arcana (who they sometimes call Gloriana Mortua)

To ensure, through education, the continued spiritual devotion of the nation's people to the goddess Gloriana.

The Seven Academies of the Sisterhood are housed throughout Nova Gloriana on estates gifted to the Sisterhood by their most noble graduates.
History
The Sisterhood of the Hidden Mother and the academies they run were founded by the Old King (father of the first Dread Queen).
The main aim of this institution was to ensure the continued spiritual devotion of the nation to its god through the provision of public services like education and healing.
Mythology & Lore
Gloriana Arcana is the hidden aspect of the goddess, Gloriana. This aspect of the goddess moves, primarily, within the unseen world and is the patron goddess of all that go unseen or ignored by society.
As the year dies, so too does the goddess. She travels through the unseen world and visits with the dead and neglected. It is through her stewardship over the dead that she is renewed and allowed to return to the world of the living.
Divine Origins
It is said that this new aspect of Gloriana appeared to The Old King in a dream and told him where to build her temple - the site that would come to be known as The Shrouded City.
It is from this site that the citadel of Nova Gloriana would be built.

Political Influence & Intrigue
The Sisterhood is responsible for educating all of Gloriana's children.
Their most prestigious academy located within The Shrouded City is where the children of the Royal and noble families are educated until they reach adulthood. This academy is also responsible for educating the children of the non-noble political class and independently wealthy citizens.
Sects
A new sect of Arcanists have broken away from the main Sisterhood because of their new (considered heretical by some) belief that the truest form of devotion to Gloriana Mortua is to fight for a more egalitarian society via political action.
While they still believe it is a noble and divine calling to serve the downtrodden and dispossessed, they have cometo the conclusion that the best way to ensure a future for these people is by taking radical political action against the corrupt political institutions that keep these people in their disenfranchised state.
