Lady Venus De Reve (a.k.a. The Lady, Mrs Sognare, Dame Reve)
Venus De Reve is the wife of one of the most powerful politicians in Nova Gloriana - The Interior Minister
The only survivor of the fire that destroyed the De Reve ancestral home with most of the family still inside, Venus married Horace De Winter when he was only a junior minister intent on making his mark among the political classes of Nova Gloriana. Although many regarded this is an inferior match for the heir of such a great family, Horace soon rose through the ranks and gained a title of his own as well as the highly coveted position of Interior Minister.
Venus is a well known socialite who can be seen frequenting the most lavish bars and clubs. She has an expensive appetite for wine, women, finery and gambling. Wherever Venus goes, wild parties and debauchery are always close behind.
Although she spends a large portion of her fortune on a lavish lifestyle, Venus is also a proud patron of much of Nova Gloriana's artists and inventors. Much of the De Reve family fortune can be seen in Nova Gloriana's architecture, art and technological advances.
Now, that she is the sole heir to the De Reve fortune, Venus is the patron of much of Nova Gloriana's artists, inventors and engineers.
While other Lords and Ladies of Nova Gloriana's High Families prefer to keep distance between themselves and the lowly creators they employ (often appointing poorer distant relations to oversee the tedium), Venus takes a very hands-on approach to all of her beneficiaries. Because of her connections within the Shrouded City, the High Families of Nova Gloriana, the political position of her husband, Horace, and her continued active investment in the professional and pastoral care of her charges, there isn't much that happens in Nova Gloriana that The Lady doesn't know about.
Mental characteristics
Like all daughters of Nova Gloriana's High Families, Venus studied under the rigorous and exacting tutelage of the Sisterhood of the Hidden Mother.
Being a member of one of the High Families of Nova Gloriana and having access to all of her family's wealth, Venus does not need employment preferring to socialise with her circle and oversee the progress of her charges.
One of Venus' latest charges has just secured a contract with Nova Gloriana's military to develop safer and more efficient weapons and vehicles - the largest contracted ever awarded to a single individual in Nova Gloriana's history.
Venus' marriage to Horace De Winter is still a topic of much ridicule among the High Families (even though none of them would dare say anything to Venus, directly).
Having survived the fire that killed all of her family, Venus suffers from survivor's guilt. She often has nightmares about all of the people that she las lost in her life.
Venus is an incredibly shrewd and observant woman. She prizes above all else, an ability to see the bigger picture and the wider reaching implications of small, seemingly insignificant events. Nothing is too small to notice and nothing is unimportant.
Unlike many of the members of the High Families, Venus believes in the value of hard work, talent and ingenuity. She doesn't care for people who needlessly espouse cruelty toward the lower classes and she despises the fact that most of the Cult's riches are not spent on helping Gloriana's most unfortunate citizens.
