Kobolds
Distantly related to dragons, at once during the BD period they were mildly feared bandits, robbing and killing. Over time they more so adapted into tricksters, and are now very good inventors.
Basic Information
Anatomy
4 limbed, with one head and two eyes, frequently yellow. They are sensitve to sunlight.
They have claws to defend themselves and weak scales covering their entire body.
The skeletal structure most closely resembles that of dragonborn, but they lack the specifc muscle that allowed the dragons, and indeed dragonborn, to excrete dangerous material.

Genetics and Reproduction
Female kobolds lay a total of 20 eggs per year that, if unfertilised, harden to form incredibly hard and scaly rocks, with a melting point equivalent to that of Tungsten.
If the eggs are fertilised within 3 to 6 months they will hatch, a small scaleless kobold emerging.

Growth Rate & Stages
Despite their long life spans, they tend to mature quickly. Most scientists believe because when they were bandits they were killed by adventuerers frequently at younger ages.
3-6 months as an egg.
When a kobold is born they lack scales. They grow these scales over the course of one month, the stronger the scales, the stronger the teeth.
During toddler years (2,3) they began to develop speech, however at age 1, they begin to learn the clicking body language found in Kobolds.
At age 8 they approach adolescence, which works very similar to human puberty, except instead of growing hair they grow claws and tend to be more aggressive. However they lack the rebellious traits often experinced by humans and instead wish to grow closer to their clans.
At age 16 they approach adulthood, and begin to mature.
At old age, usually approaching a full century of life, they slow deteriation of their claws and teeth begins to become obvious, and their muscles begin to atrophy and slow down. However, the curse of Kobolds is that their scales continue to harden throughout their lives, to the point where, typically at age 120, their muscles are unable to bear their armour, and they freeze to death within hollow shells. Kobold graveyards look like individual moments of time.

Ecology and Habitats
They prefer to live in shadier areas, some even living underground. If there is no cave or canopy available, Kobolds can often claw out their own hiding holes for them to spend the day in.
They are surprisngly skilled with crafting and tools, the famous Kobold tower being an effective way to rob people even during the day whilst protecting themselves.

Dietary Needs and Habits
Kobolds are omnivores, but as scavengers by nature often prefer berries to meat. They require less nourishment than most races, but this often means they have to eat a little more than most if their lives are filled with action.
Biological Cycle
Over time, their claws sharpen as well as their teeth, but past their prime, usually around 80 years old, they begin to gradually deteriorate.
Their scales, very atypical for reptiles, continue to harden throughout their lives, never weakening by natural means.
Some Kobolds, usually those with red or gold dragon links in their ancestory, become more drowsy during the winter seasons, some actively hibernating.

Additional Information
Social Structure
Clans that usually work together but stick within their own groups.
Within the clans, the brighter ones usually lead, but being able to so effectively communicate they usually work as a collective council.

Uses, Products & Exploitation
Usually underpaid for the things they create.
Sometimes considered delicacies among larger creatures, most commonly chimeras, whose dragon heads are capable of cracking their scales.

Facial characteristics
Pointy beak, long ears, yellow eyes like a cats.
Average Intelligence
All Kobolds are sentience and the majority have 'mad genius', eccentricities that often lead to creative developments. This is unlikely to be an evolutionary habit as it is shared among gnomes.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They have remarkable darkvision but are unfortunatly sensitive to sunlight.
They emit specific frequencies by clicking to other Kobolds that act a lot like body language, allowing them to understand their intentions, allowing them to work incredibly efficently in groups, anywhere from battle to a kitchen.

Civilization and Culture
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Draconic, Common
Common Etiquette Rules
So often being restricted to only kobold society they miss the ability that their communicative abilites grant them when dealing with other species.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Get on well with Gnomes, both being genius inventors with tendencies for madness.
Amiable with Dragonborn, with some jealousy for their breath weaponry, the feeling being reciprocated for the kobolds strong bonds with each other.
Elves don't respect them, seeing them as little lizards, jumped up because of their cleverness. Kobolds who interact with elves often ignore this, others antogonise them.
The Dwarves have respect for them, both being master craftsmen in the fields, but don't often speak with them, Kobolds being more difficult to understand than gnomes. Less clicking.
The majority of races are neutral towards them, quickly getting over their ancestral fear of Kobolds as bandits and theives. Many people have Kobold crafted nicknacks around their house without knowing it.
