This is the continuation of Session 459 – Storm Season.
The heroes have returned to Anfla Island to face the mighty Crab-Titan Obsidapor, who has risen from the dead and is wreaking havoc. Obsidapor has caused earthquakes and tsunamis, destroying coastal villages of the local Adaenum tribespeople, including the sacred site of Alhond, home to the High Guide of the demigod Manaclir. Hundreds have lost their lives. Luckily, the heroes have discovered that in ancient mythic times, Manaclir built a great bonfire and burned the venom of the Goliath Spider from the Deadwood Reef, the silver moss of Heiryl Moor, and the blood of a hero. Obsidapor is said to have found the smoke irresistible. The party plans to gather these ingredients and set a trap for the powerful Ivashu.
Location: Heiryl Moor on Anfla Island
Part 1 – Heiryl Moor
The party makes their way across Anfla Island, discovering the depression known as Heiryl Moor, the remains of a meteor crater, and now a bog filled with all kinds of strange fungi and plant life. Many thousands of years ago, a strange metal fell from the sky, and most of it was buried deep beneath a layer of mud and vegetation. This appears to have distorted some of the plant life. The party notices the silvery glow of patches of moss and cautiously approaches. They sense something is wrong, with odd distortions in the mist and something large and amorphous moving in a nearby stagnant pool. The distortions burst into balls of light, Will-o'-Wisps, and a massive green slime mass emerges from the pool. The will-o'-wisps are quick and agile, while the swamp ooze is slow and splits into two when hit by a blast of metal shards from Remy. However, these monsters pose little threat to the heroes.
Part 2 – Mutated Horrors
As the party approaches the glowing moss, Abaddon casts Speak with Plants to have a friendly chat. They warn him that two sinister plant-like creatures are hidden among the foliage. The heroes move closer with caution.
Two deformed, bulbous plants with large, jagged wooden spikes reveal themselves by releasing deadly spores that tear into flesh. These monstrous beings, warped by the mysterious, magical effects of rocks and metal falling from the sky, pose a serious threat. After surviving the initial onslaught, the heroes face the deadly plants. The plant's thick skin is hard to pierce and resists most of their strikes. Tendrils from one plant wrap around Remy. He transforms into a fire elemental and burns himself free, but the plant nearly bites him in half, forcing him to fight Invisibly. Despite the hardships, the heroes eventually cut their way through these mutated plants, but come out much worse for wear.
The party gathers some of the strange silvery moss, which is the first component needed to trap Obsidapor.
Location: The Deadwood Reef.
Part 3 – The Deadwood Reef
A few days later, the heroes, borrowing a fishing boat, visit the dangerous Deadwood Reef, filled with rocks and petrified trees, in search of Goliath Spiders. The travelers don't have to wait long; three colossal daddy long-legs have disguised themselves as tree stumps and prepare an ambush. Fortunately, Odin sees through their deception, and the heroes unleash their full power, swiftly defeating the enormous arachnids.
The foe's carcasses sink into the shallow sea. Abaddon easily turns into a seal and gathers venom from the massive corpses. They now have the second element needed to trap Obsidapor. All that's left is the blood of a hero.
To be continued.
