This is the continuation of Session 461 – Silver Moss and the campaign's conclusion.
The heroes have returned to Anfla Island to face the mighty Crab-Titan Obsidapor, who has risen from the dead and is wreaking havoc. Obsidapor has caused earthquakes and tsunamis, destroying coastal villages of the local Adaenum tribespeople, including the sacred site of Alhond, the home of the High Guide of the demigod Manaclir. Hundreds have lost their lives.
Fortunately, the heroes have discovered that in mythic times, the Manaclir built a great bonfire and burned the venom of the Goliath Spider from the Deadwood Reef, the silver moss from the Heiryl Moor, and the blood of a hero. Obsidapor is said to have found the smoke irresistible. The party has gathered these ingredients and prepared a trap from the might Ivashu.
Location: On the cliffs overlooking an isolated bay on Anfla Island.
Part 1 – Preparing the Trap
The heroes have selected a prime location for their trap. The cliff where they will fight rises 50 feet above the sea and can be reached by a winding path. The Adaenum tribesmen have sent half a dozen of their best warriors to help and to gather wood for the huge bonfire. It is lit; the heroes prepare for battle, casting buffing spells and elixirs. They are Hasted, Blessed, and now enveloped in a concealing mist that proves crucial in the final fight.
Then the heroes throw the silver moss and venom of a goliath spider into the fire, and the smoke becomes acrid and black. The final ingredient is the blood of a hero; Abaddon donates his, and although weakened, he is imbued with the power of a righteous cause. Now the heroes wait, and soon they see a strange glow quickly approaching them out at sea.
Part 2 – Obsidapor Emerges
Out of the surf, the enormous crab-titan Obsidapor emerges. The malicious Ivashu moves slowly and steadily forward, only pausing to vomit out a swarm of deformed crabs, then spits a glob of feezing seawater at Remy, who is flying high in the sky. The titan repeats this tactic, and soon four masses of his deranged spawn skitter toward the party. Then the heroes feel a tremor as two enormous trolls burst out of the ground. Obsidapor has called its friends. However, the threat seems minimal, and at the cost of several lives, the Adaenum tribesmen grab burning sticks from the bonfire and incinerate one troll. Abaddon sneaks up behind another and strikes the back of its head with a perfectly timed blow; the troll's brain explodes.
Unfortunately, the spawn overwhelms the brave tribesmen, and all are devoured, but several are destroyed by Edelina’s Shadow Blasts and Remy’s metal Shard Strikes. Then Obsidapor moves into melee rage.
Part 3 – The Final Battle
Obsidapor moves in close, and its bioluminescent glow causes chaos. Remy and Edelina feel compelled to approach. The titan then strikes, and with a massive claw sweep, nearly kills Abaddon. Fortunately, the second and likely fatal blow misses thanks to the mist surrounding the elf. Abaddon is forced to temporarily retreat.
Remy eventually breaks free from the compulsion and retreats after Obsidapor’s bite narrowly misses, thanks to the mist surrounding him. Odin rushes in, grabs the mesmerized Edelina, and drags her to safety. Now free from the charm, she provides healing to Abaddon, who then returns to the battle. The titan fights on and hits hard, but Edelina manages to mitigate the worst of the damage.
Remy fires a lightning-charged metal spike into a titanic-sized creature, slowing it down and causing significant pain. Eventually, the heroes’ attacks take their toll; cracks begin to form in Obsidapor’s stone-like shell. Desperation creeping in, it focuses all its strikes on Abaddon, but the elf’s luck holds, and assisted by the concealing mist, he manages to dodge the worst.
The observant Edelina sees an opportunity; for a brief moment, she doesn’t have to deliver magical healing, so instead she summons the divine magic of her god, Save K’Nor, with a ray of holy flame. This strikes the enormous Ivashu full in the face, searing it badly, and a follow-up ray hits it deep in its chest. The monster’s rock-like body begins to quiver, utters a hideous scream, then explodes, sending tonnes of shattered rocks over the area. Fortunately, although badly bruised, Edelina and the rest of the heroes remain standing. The demigod Obsidapor is vanquished, and its twin souls depart to be recycled by the god Ilvir into other bodies. The world will no longer be plagued by its evil.
Epilogue
Anfla Island and the Adaenum Barbarians
The heroes have defeated a great evil. The coastal Adaenum barbarians are extremely grateful for the hero's efforts and are revered as heroes; they have been saved from likely destruction, but are now significantly weakened. Since the heroes represent the Earl of Sarkum, the barbarians are more likely to accept his offers of protection and the “benefits” of civilization. A careful process of integrating and assimilating the Anfla Island population into the Kingdom of Kanday is now possible, though it will take generations.
The Earldom of Sarkum
Earl Ranald Milaka is is grateful for the hero's efforts; the destruction of Obsidapor has secured his domain. The aging noble grants Odin a manor, but due to his declining health, he delegates most of his responsibilities to his second son Anaflas Milaka.
