Kingdom of Emelrene
Overview
The magical land between two rivers.
The feudal Kingdom of Emelrene has existed in various forms for over 14 centuries; its history is characterized by its unique magical environment and struggles with both external and internal threats. It is situated on the continent of Lythia, closest to the islands of Hârn and closely connected to the Kingdom of Melderyn, the so-called wizard's kingdom, and the Kingdom of the Evael (elves).
Over the centuries, the kingdom has successfully fended off powerful invaders, including the forces of the Empire of Azeryan at its height, the Kingdom of Trierzon, and the waves of Ivinian hordes.
Emelrene is known for its powerful magical traditions, secret societies, and unusual Ethereal Zones that host both natural and supernatural flora and fauna. The kingdom's history involves managing these arcane and ethereal elements, as well as the problems caused by the spawning of supernatural creatures. For thousands of years, the people of this land have formed a Covenant with the elves to safeguard the world from these magical threats.
While the kingdom has proven resilient against these threats, the warning signs are increasingly concerning for the rulers.
Leadership
At first glance, Emelrene appears to be a traditional feudal kingdom governed by the capable Queen Yolanda Edhelen, who rules from the City of Berema, and by various dukes, earls, barons, and lords. However, a significant population of semi-nomadic Free Emela people, closely related by blood to the nobility, wields considerable influence, providing the royal court with advice and guidance. The Emela have ancient connections to the elven Kingdom of Evael on Hârn and serve as guardians of the numerous ethereal zones within the kingdom.
The elderly Queen Yolanda has ruled wisely for decades and remains unmarried. Her nephew, Prince Anavras Edhelen, the Duke of Jerinal, is the heir apparent.
The Queen receives advice from the Emelan Council, which is assembled from a broad cross-section of Emelan society. Its activities include diplomacy and espionage. The council comprises a public council, whose members are known to the public, and additional secret members, the so-called unspoken council.
The mysterious Dheria-Isvan (The Keeper of the Covenant) leads the Emhle, the ancient guardians of the land and strongly linked by culture and blood to the kingdom's nobility and royal family. The Dheria-Isvan is elected for life based at the mountain fortress of Abrelyn in the Jerinalia mountains. The Keeper of the Covenant approved the monach and assigned three representatives to the Emelan Council.
