Ethereal Zones

The Kingdom of Emelrene has numerous unusual supernatural and ethereal gateways and planar rifts. Some of these zones are well-established, but spontaneous, short-lived zones occasionally appear. Most of these zones have become much more active in recent years.

These are regions where traveling between dimensions is much easier than in ordinary realms. Various entities, including Ivashu, elemental beings, dragons, and demonic creatures, often cross over and can pose a significant threat. Some zones can manipulate magic, reality, elemental energies, or time.

The free Emhle people have served as Rangers and Wardens of these Ethereal Zones for many thousands of years, initially guided by the elves of Hârn until the elves withdrew from the world after the Battle of Sorrows.

Example Zones

Tirdhal Zone

Location: Eastern slopes of Tirdhwy Mountain.

Type: An Elemental Zone linked to Metal. Small Orivrin (Metal Elementals) associated with tin and zinc are common in the area.

Tirdhwyd and Befaen Lodges watch over this zone, as it has become much more active in recent years.

Divel Zone

Location: Mountain valley southwest of Nynlaes Mountain.

Type: An Elemental Cold and Darkness zone. This valley is extremely cold and dangerous. Ice Sheor (Ice Elements) and the feared and mysterious beings known as the Eldest Ones have been seen in and around the zone.

The Wardens of Divael Lodge held by Clan Hemthela, monitor this dangerous zone and have become concerned after a recent spike in activity, with some claiming to have seen a White Dragon.

Shadryn Zone

Location: Northwestern slopes of Nynlaes Mountain.

Type: A zone of Darkness and Gloom, filled with mists and ghostly apparitions. Gytevshai, the minions of the god Vanaer (He Who Stalks in the Night), who is also known as Naveh, are also found in this zone.

The Wardens of Shadrynglyd Lodge, run by Clan Kheltralyn, oversee this area and are recognized as specialists in gytevshai, frequently called upon for advice and help in dealing with Vanaer’s servants.

Domordh Zone

Location: Northeastern slopes of Nynlaes Mountain.

Type: A zone of Darkness, filled with ghostly apparitions. This zone is extremely cold and dark; those who enter it are blinded. Eldest Ones can be found in and around the zone.

The Wardens of Domordiv Lodge, held by Clan Kolshallyn, monitor this zone.

Belemwyr Zone

Location: Mt Belemwys.

Type: An ethereal zone centered on Belemwys Peak and strongly linked to the element of Fire. Formidable Fire Elementals, along with Fire Drakes and Dragons, reside within this zone. It was the heart of the ‘fire terror’ that devastated the region six centuries ago.

The Malakta fortress of Malakrhyn guards the eastern approaches, while the Ahntirith Lodge and the shrine of Umbelmys keep watch to the west.

Kiravollen Zone

Location: Between Mt Belemys and Mt Tisam.

Type: An ethereal zone linked to Wood-based magic, also a minor Slow zone; spending one hour in the zone equals about a day outside it. The zone features several impressive stands of Rowan trees.
