Flamvelle

At the base of the foothills of Agorimegali lies Flamvelle; the only established Fire Genasi settlement to be found on Flamvelle Isle. It is believed that the ancestors of the Fire Genasi built the settlement around a bubbling magma pool known to Fire Genasi as Magmatos Neteira, a place of great importance. At present, Flamvelle is roughly the size of a large mainland village. Flamvelle is populated solely by Fire Genasi as the natives do not let foreign people - not even other species of genasi - settle on their land. Some Fire Genasi choose to live elsewhere on the isle and can be found in isolation or small familial groups within the foothills of Agorimegali, or even within the Emberwind Forests to the east and west. The Fire Genasi believe that the isle's active volcano Agorimegali is a deific being which created their people by sculpting them from magma drawn from Magmatos Neteira at the base of the volcano. Upon their death, the bodies of deceased genasi are taken to this sacred magma pool to be cremated as it is believed their spirit returns to the heart of Agorimegali deep below the isle.

Demographics

Flamvelle is populated solely by Fire Genasi without exception. The genasi of the isle do not allow visitors to settle, so any traders who visit the isle must come prepared to either be turned away ouright or to make a quick deal and then leave. The Fire Genasi defend their isle with a zealous fervor fueled by the idea that Agorimegali is a god who created them and them alone to live on the isle. This belief is a source of great pride and identity that is shared among the vast majority of the Fire Genasi people.   Of the Fire Genasi who live on the isle, many work as miners, fishermen, loggers, huntsmen or craftsmen who transform the raw materials harvested from the isle into useful tools/accomodation. Life can be harsh and resrouces hard to come by on Flamvelle Isle so each genasi must work hard to support their community.

Government

The Fire Genasi of Flamvelle Isle answer to their people's Elder. The Elder is an individual chosen from among the genasi during the Rite of Agorimegali. Those who wish to succeed from the previous Elder make a pilgramage deep into the heart of Agorimegali where they must stay for a full week and return with the Blessing of Agorimegali - a feat difficult even for the fire attuned genasi people. The Elder's role is to keep the peace among the hot tempers and passionate outbursts that are common amongst the Fire Genasi. When summer comes around, the Elder leads their people across the ocean to the mainland where they take up residence in Myraan for their traditional season.

Defences

The Fire Genasi established Flamvelle away from the main habitation points of other animals and most choose to live as a part of the community within Flamvelle. As a result of this, the genasi do not have to deal with threats like dinosaur stampedes or hordes of raiders that are common on the mainland of Southern Midasfjall. The Fire Genasi rely on their own strength of arms to repel any threat that does wander too close instead of sturdy walls and gates. Flamvelle Isle's isolation is another factor that keeps the Fire Genasi safe. Not only is the isle difficult to reach from the mainland but also the Fire Genasi keep a strict and proud tradition of not allowing anyone of a foreign species to settle on the isle, not even members of other genasi species.

Industry & Trade

Genasi Trade
Each genasi tribe spend one season every year inhabiting the shared genasi city of Myraan. During their migration to the City of Four Elements, the genasi bring with them the unique export that they are known to provide. The unique export is divided equally among the other tribes who collect it during their season of governance  before they return to their traditional homeland. This cycle of give and take among the genasi helps to keep balance among the four tribes.
IMPORTS

Points of interest

  • Shrine to Agorimegali - The Fire Genasi of the isle come to the shrine which is located close to the center of Flamvelle to leave burned offerings to the volcano.
  • The Mazevo Neteira - The largest structure in the entirety of Flamvelle, it serves as an assemble point for the people of Flamvelle when the genasi Elder calls a gathering. The building is larger than most in town, allowing it to comfortably accomodate a couple dozen people at one time and features a stage from which the Elder can adress a gathered crowd.
  • Magmatos Neteira - Magmatos Neteira is the name given to the magma pool at the centre of Flamvelle. All Fire Genasi consider the magma pool to be a sacred place as they believe that Agorimegali created the first Fire Genasi from the magma within the pool.

Architecture

Flamvelle Isle's isolation from the rest of Southern Midasfjall has kept the building capabilities of it's Fire Genasi inhabitants limited. The genasi use logs harvested from the Emberwind Forests to create primitive square shaped buildings and coat the outer walls with rich clay donated to them by the Earth Genasi of Gondelle to solididfy the structure. Slatestone harvested from the nearby foothills is used to create the flat roofs of the genasi home and provide a base for the rain catchers that the genasi utilise to gather drinking water. Brightly coloured canopies are hung between rooftops providing areas of shade on the streets below. The few larger buildings within Flamvelle are those built for function; a couple of storage buildings, a meeting hall and a primitive shrine to Agorimegali are all that the Fire Genasi can boast of architechturally speaking. The larger buildings around the settlement are made out of chunks of slatestone harvested from the foothills of Agorimegali and tend to be built to cover a larger area rather than have multiple storeys to them.

Geography

Flamvelle was built at the base of Agorimegali; the isle's active volcano. As such the settlement was built surrounded by the nearby foothills with it's eastern perimeter open to the flatter plains between The Magma Fields and the Western Emberwind Forest. At the center of Flamvelle lies a bubbling pool of magma that the Fire Genasi believe to be where Agorimegali sculpted the first Fire Genasi, breathing life into their people.

Natural Resources

The Fire Genasi of Flamvelle rely on the isle to provide for most of their needs. Building materials such as lumber and slatestone are taken from the Emberwind Forest's and the volcanic foothills respectively. Genasi fishermen travel to the fishing outpost on the northern coast of the isle to see what the ocean will provide for them, while genasi hunters roam the foothills in search of Emboar, a variant of fiery tempered boar that exist only on Flamvelle Isle, to bring back to the village for meat. Strong genasi hunters wishing to test themselves may venture into The Magma Fields in search of Fire Hawk eggs or perhaps a Lava Fish or two, risking the dangerous environment and volcanic creatures to have a chance at brining a bounty back to the village.
