Elunakhi

Elunakhi is a major religion on Leoram that is dedicated to the worship of fire as the clearest manifestation of the divine force in the world. It is also the name that the followers of this faith take for themselves rather than having a separate demonym. This often leads to confusion on the part of those who are not familiar with the faith and its adherents and so outsiders have brought into use a number of alternative names for both the faith itself and the followers of that faith. Elunakhi, both the beliefs and the followers, are particularly prevalent in Exokkos, where the worldwide centre for the religion is to be found in the city of Pyrkagias.

Mythology & Lore

The Elunakhi holy text is titled Sophia, which is a word that means wisdom in the language of the Thalassanos.

Divine Origins

Elunakhi as a religion emerged in the 3rd Century NE. The Third Century Incursions were a devastating blow to the civilised nations of the world, who had hardly reestablished themselves in the wake of the Mage Wars. In many places nations fell and people were on the brink of being wiped out. In few places was this more true than in south-east Exokkos, where a massive wave of Undead had poured out of the Oreinos Mountains and been channelled southwards by the military might of the empire of Kratiros.   Kinnabrachos erupted alongside thirteen other volcanoes in the Phlogkoron Mountains and all Undead creatures within line of sight of these erupting volcanoes were immediately disintegrated.

Ethics

The Elunakhi are one of the few Leoran religions that actively promote loyalty to the faith community above and beyond any temporal authority. This has caused no small amount of friction with the governments of various nations across the world, particularly on the faith’s home continent of Exokkos.

Worship

The Elunakhi refer to their places of worship as tiphlogas, which is a portmanteau of the phrase ‘Spiti tis Phlogas’, meaning home of the flame. This phrase is meant to be taken literally as well as figuratively, since within each tiphloga, a brazier is kept burning at all times, tended to by the photistis in charge and their acolytes.   The principle act of worship is communal prayer, which Elunakhi are called on to make at least once a week.

Priesthood

Elunakhi clerics are referred to as photistis, which is the traditional Thalassanos word for ‘Illuminator’. The title is apt given the focus of Elunakhi on fire.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The Elunakhi have a long standing poor relationship with the other faith communities of Leoram due to their uncompromising stance on the validity of beliefs other than their own.   In addition to their poor relations with other faiths, Elunakhi has a poor relationship with the Charter Schools of Sorcery due to their main symbology being based on fire, which the Chartrites view as being a tacit undermining of their own common symbol.
