Jewel Street aka Nightmarket
"Welome to the jungle, we got fun and games
We got everything you want, honey we know the names
We are the people that can find whatever you may need
If you got the money honey we've got your disease"
-"Welcome to the Jungle" Guns N Roses, Appetite for Destruction, Geffen Records 1987 CE
Sandwiched between Novo Salvador to the west and Southside to the east, this area of Utopia is due south of the Financial Plaza. During the hours of daylight the only places that are usually open are a solitary Atomik Cafe, a newsagents (Sankar & Son Newsagency) and an equally solitary kebab stand (Kumamoto Kebab's "Best Kebabs in the System"). All other businesses storefronts are locked up and sealed tight.
Officially, the area is known as Jewel Street. The main drag is lined with several jewellery stores and one or two antique shops; Straker & Barlow being the most prominent of the two. When dusk does come around things start to 'liven' up along the main drag and out into the rest of the district. Night time is the right time for business along Jewel Street and its environs, this fact is also enhanced by the several bars and strip joints scattered around the region like glitter. A view of the listings for such venues will reveal the following establishments:
- Barnard's: a 'meeting' spot. Barnard's is where a person goes to contract either muscle for a job (heist, hit or kidnap) or security (bodyguards, on site guards). It's very old school vibe complete with pictures of such individuals as Al Capone, Ken Shinigami, Ivan Dragunov & Pablo Escobar.
- Neon Alchemy; like Barnard's a meeting place, though for hackers. Here some of the planet's top notch hackers gather. The place is decked out with gaming icons, futurist images, 3D holograms as well as holoporn and booths for virutals be it gaming, drama or something else. Rumour has it the place is run by the Elder Darkness
- Ishtar's; nightclub and brothel. One can meet someone or several someones for a night of bliss in the rooms above the main bar area, or one can discretely contract an assassin, spy or saboteur. Take your pick. Ishtar's is usually frequented by an upmarket clientele (read apparatchiks or kaisha-in).
- Fiasco's; nightclub, strip joint and gambling den. Fiasco's is where people go to deal in information. Usually while watching a dancer or engaged in a game of poker in the basement.
- The Bebop Room; a quiet off the main drag jazz and blues bar. Here one can contract a bounty hunter. Unlike the other places this service is perfectly legit and is frequented by a wide range of clientele from corporates to the average person on the street. The jazz and blues acts are also a major draw and people from as far away as Krasnygorod are know to kill for tickets.
And then of course aside from the clubs, bars etc there are the specialist outlets that deal in various areas of expertise. Straker & Barlow's while operating as an antique store (the largest of the two on Jewel Street) also engages in tech and relic smuggling. Anton's Bookstore has a sideline in providing forged documents, currency and rare, hard to acquire texts.
And then there is the Rising Sun Noodle & Sushi Bar. This establishment apart from being noted for its superlative sushi and noodle dishes also has a very profitable sideline in black mark weapons. Usually staff members rent weapons and sell ammo, indicating that the place has a stock of illicit firearms on hand. But some claim that in the restaurants basement there's an illegal fabber that the someone operates to generate guns and bullets on spec.
No one has ever confirmed it this is true. But there are two martial arts stores in the area so even if you cannot get a gun and ammo at Rising Sun, you can certainly get nunchuks, knives, shuriken and other lethal bits of ironmongery elsewhere. It should also be noted that Jewel Street during daytime and nighttime is absent of any police. Even drones do not fly over the area.
Those taking in the sights beware...
