Oregon
The Republic of Oregon is a nation in North America after the formation of the Oregon and Columbia territories into an independent country from America and Great Britain. The republic was founded in Fort Astoria by American Thomas Jefferson in 1812 after dissatisfaction with the runnings of the Kingdom of America.
Culture
Beginning at its declaration in 1812, Oregon worked diligently to peacefully assimilate the Native populations into their ranks under Jefferson's vision. The native population, numbered near 500,000 in the early 19th century, bolstered the cities and settlements in Oregon, with many natives maintaining high positions of power. As compared to the Kingdoms of America and Canada, Oregon has always been more favorable to their native populations.
History
Oregon was declared an independent republic in Fort Astoria, which acted as the de facto capital. Jefferson initially only claimed the north-western portion of the territory, but subsequent presidents have pressed claims on the entire Oregon and British Columbian territories.
In 1815, during the War of the North, the HMS Raccoon entered the ports of Astoria with the intention of claiming it for Britain only to find the Jeffersonian government claiming independence. This information eventually made its way to London, to which the reaction was one of disdain as the North American continent was increasingly being seen as troublesome. However, concern was pushed to America and Napoleon.
In 1818, at the end of the war, America and Britain established the border along the 38th parallel up to the Rocky Mountains. While the remained was meant to be shared between the two, everything northwest of the Rockies was quickly claimed as Oregon.
Wanting to maintain good relations with his former colleague, Earl James Monroe convinced his son-in-law, King Augustus II, to recognize the sovereignty of the region.
In 1865, Oregon simultaneously condemned the murder of Emperor Vicente II and Empress Maria of Mexico as well as the American intervention to install Prince Miguel to the throne.
In 1867, Oregon entered into negotiations with Emperor Constantine I of Russia to purchase Alaska. Alaska had become increasingly difficult to defend, though Constantine and the Russian government saw Oregon as a preferable purchaser than Britain through Canada. The following year, Oregon and the Kingdom of Canada negotiated a border within the Northwest Territories.
In 1871, following the Mexican Revolutionary War, Oregon agreed to host diplomatic negotiations. The results were the formation of the Republic of Mexico and Rio Grande along a demarcation. Oregon declined to recognize the Republic of Yucatan under an ethnostate, as well as Central America America under the rule of a grand duke loyal to the whims of America.
Oregon condemned the overthrow of Queen Lili'uokalani of Hawaii and the formation of a republic in 1893. Though Oregon typically welcomed the rise of republics, the Oregonian government saw the overthrow as an American ploy to annex the islands.
During the Great War, President A. Mitchell Palmer declared neutrality at the Congress of Columbia. However, he also helped fund the Canadian and British war efforts through funding and arms. Many saw this as a breach of neutrality, and nearly escalated to retaliations by German Empire.
Following the war and the suppression of French culture in Canada, as well as the Montreal Riots, Oregon became a haven of fleeing Quebecois. This came at a great strain to the Oregonian economy, and saw the political leanings of President William Gibbs McAdoo swing.

The head of the executive branch is the President of Oregon. The first holder of the office was Thomas Jefferson, while the second was the founder of Astoria, John Jacob Astor. Following Astor, William Short served as President following his defeat for re-election as Chancellor of America.
The president serves for a term of four years, renewable for as many times as the Congress permits. Presidents may serve consecutive terms.
This is probably my favorite nation in your world. I love it!
