Gwyrden, the King with the Burning Crown

Gwyrden wants to explore the magic of the world, and have a family. Many external forces motivate him further however. Gwyrden strives to eliminate the Hallower Cult, as it threatens all existence. He also is devoted to a personal interpretation of Cyrahan Amalgamism; striving for peace through settling disputes between the tribal cultures of Therosol. He is committed to accomplishing his goals without use of his powers, fearing that they will pull him further out of touch with humanity.

As Kvar of Vulsha, Gwyrden's reign began in 1023. During his time as Kvar he pursued his enemies to the ends of Therosol, gaining lands and titles as he went. By 1030 he had become an ally of the forest-dwelling Aracans, and an overlord of the nomadic Bori. In 1031 he claimed the title of Banded One by force from the Felmorans, extending the powers of the role to give himself control over the clans and their warbands.    With the combined might of his acquired peoples and lands, he brought a mighty army to meet Thol, the Wolf King of the Cyrah. Here the opposition was at its strongest, and the war saw the loss of countless Therosolians. After the taking of Vicilior in 1033, Thol was forced off of the Isle of Therosol, leaving Gwyrden to take his throne.    In 1035, Thol was killed, and the Cyrah were forced to recognize Gwyrden as their new king. Gwyrden claimed Vicilior as his capital and crowned himself in fire before all his subjects; a show of his mastery and power. He created roads, laws, and customs which were to be recognized by all Therosolians. He maintained the most loyal warriors from his campaigns, establishing them as enforcers of the King's law.    1038 saw the first contact with outsiders from beyond the Green Sea. The Dartilians were searching for new trading partners and allies, and found one with the Therosolian king. A princess of Dartil was offered in marriage to Gwyrden. He travelled to Dartil to meet her and to see the far-off kingdom itself. An engagement was announced upon his return in 1039.    War between Dartil and an enemy from the north broke out the following year, placing the royal wedding on hold while the nobility fought for their lands. The Dartilians were to proud to admit their losses, but when news arrived in Therosol that the Queen-to-be was killed in battle, Gwyrden understood the predicament. In 1041 he sent his army to fight for Dartil, led by his fiercest champions.    It was not until 1046 that half of his army returned with news of their victory. The losses had been great, and new Dartilian recruits stood amid the king's old veterans. Worse still was that many of the returning forces had been lost in a sudden storm at sea. Among those lost to the storm was his dearest friends and champions. Further, the Dartilians had no daughters left to offer in marriage, nor treasures left to give to Therosol in recompense.    King Gwyrden lost much of his momentum after that. With fewer enforcers, his order was threatened, and other nobles began to try and exert more power over their own lands. In 1048, he saw to it that the sons and daughters of all nobles in his kingdom were brought to Vicilior as his wards, hoping to keep his Kingdom in tact without spilling blood.
