Tharen Dhal Cyrahan

Tharen , Dhal Cyrahan

Not much is known of Tharen's past before joining the Wyrdahlir in 1009. Once in the order, he made a name for himself as an accomplished healer and devout Amalgamist. His relative youth compared to the other Dahl singled him out as a prodigy of the Cyrahan, and those that knew his name and reputation whispered prophecies of greatness.    His pride drove him to seek greater knowledge and skill, eventually leading to a conflict with the Cyradahlir in 1014. Neglecting the duties of a Wyrdahl, Tharen spent much of his time in Vicilior to bask in his fame and delve into the ancient secrets within the city itself. Rather than tending to all of the Cyrah, he placed his own power above all other concerns. The resulting trials would have seen him thrown out of the Dahlir altogether, were it not for the intervention of the many political contacts he had made over the years. Instead he was reduced to the status of a clerk, to forever live in the shadows of the Cyradahlir that he served. The punishment was humbling.    After the purging of the Cyradahlir in 1025, the Wolf King placed the Tyridahlir above all others, and forced many into hiding. Among the surviving Cyradahlir was Tharen. Much of his studies were devoted to the history and secrets of Vicilior itself, and he was able to hide a number of people away from Thol within the ruined places of the vast city. Taking up his old title as Tharen Wyrdahlir, he helped the people of Vicilior as best he could, hid away many dangerous texts from the Wolf King, and looked for ways to undo Thol's dark magics.    In 1031, he traveled to Felmor to find Kvar Gwyrden of Vul, who had made an enemy of the Wolf King. He offered his knowledge to the young Kvar's war against Thol, providing the edge that would eventually see the Wolf King's fall. Tharen and Gwyrden grew close, and the Cyrah taught the Kvar much about Amalgamist doctrine. Tharen was a pivotal advisor to Gwyrden, and was a key member of the counsel that saw to the eventual unification of the tribes into the Kingdom of Therosol.    Tharen helped Gwyrden reform Cyrahain into a province of the new Kingdom, and connected him with various other Dahl who would assist him in governance. For his service, the King named him Tharen Dahl Cyrahan in 1036. The judge of all peoples. The role was different than before though; a subservient position to the King's laws, rather than the ancient laws of the ancestors. Tharen accepted the position, out of friendship, and believing the Kingdom was the only true path towards the goal of Amalgamism.    After the troubling early 1040s, many of the nobles throughout Therosol were pulling away from the Kingdom. They had chaffed under the King's new taxes and laws for years, and missed the autonomy they had before. Weakened my his loss of men, Gwyrden did not have the power to police and administrate over the vast territories of the Isle. Dahl were being turned away from settlements, tax collectors were being robbed on the roads, and old ways were replacing the King's law when his men were not around to enforce them.    Fearing for the unity that had been so hard-earned, Tharen devised a plan. He advised the King to take the children of all chieftains of all tribes to Vicilior as wards, and to teach them Amalgamist doctrine. This would serve two purposes; first they would be hostages to prevent outright rebellion, and second the children would grow up to become like-minded allies rather than enemy tribesmen.
