Dendrohmi
Dendrohmi is the main religion practiced throughout Vanori, and its central tenet is the belief in the Apeiron Cycle, or the cycle of indeterminate life. The religion venerates a pantheon of Ohmites, Pantheon of Nine, each associated with a branch of ohmi or natural force. The Ohmites are seen as eternal forces guiding the world through their chosen mortal vessels, Apeironites, influencing the balance of life in Iorasica.
Tenets of Faith
The Cycle of Apeiron
Followers of Dendrohmi believe the Ohmites periodically choose mortal vessels for their reincarnation to influence the mortal realm. Each reincarnation represents the renewal of the god's power and wisdom in the world.
Divine Balance
The Ohmites' presence in the mortal world is essential for maintaining balance. During natural disasters, war, or social unrest, Apeironites serve as guardians of harmony.
The Sacred Role of Apeironites
Apeironites are celebrated and revered as divine leaders. They must balance their mortal desires with their divine duties, often undergoing intense spiritual training to develop their powers and responsibilities.
Prophecies and Signs
Oracles and seers foretell the discovery of an Apeironite through prophecies and readings. Prophecies often speak of celestial signs or specific conditions under which an Apeironite will be born.
Worship
Devotees offer prayers to the reincarnates for guidance and protection. Offerings are made based on their sect:
- Extos- Ambrosia, mirrors, and sundials.
- Theran- Fertile soil, seeds, and gemstones.
- Azanum- Blessed water, pearls, and seashells.
- Sonum- Feathers, wind chimes, and prayers on parchment.
- Ferno- Oil, spices, and burning incense.
Rituals and Practices
Awakening Ceremony After an Apeironite's divine nature is confirmed early in childhood, the Awakening Ceremony is held. High-ranking members of the sects, nobles, and sometimes foreign dignitaries attend this sacred event. The ceremony marks the reincarnate's official recognition, and their spiritual journey begins with teachings from their sect. The Trials of Thaumaturgy To prove their Apeironite status and gain control over their divine powers, reincarnates must undergo a series of trials known as the Thaumaturgy Trials. These trials vary based on the Ohmite's sect and test the reincarnate's physical, emotional, and spiritual fortitude. The trials ensure the Apeironite is worthy and prepared to wield the Ohmite's power. After the Apeironite masters their power, a ceremonial festival consecrates their mastery. The festival lasts for months as people from all over the continent come to celebrate, and the final day serves as the official ceremony that tests the feats of the reincarnate. Failure of the trials often results in death or life-altering disfigurement. Ascension Ritual When an Apeironite dies, their body undergoes the Ascension Ritual. In Dendrohmi, it's believed their ohmi must be released into the aether to restore their respective Ohmites’ essence. This is essential for the next Apeironite to be reborn. The reincarnate's body is treated with the utmost reverence, typically involving elaborate rites representative of their sect and Ohmites. The Rite of Returning Similar to the Ascension ritual, it’s believed that when people die, their ohmi must be released into the aether. As the embodiment of the Apeiron Cycle, Hyperion cleanses the ohmi of its previous properties and restores it to the cycle in its purest state of indefinite use.Granted Divine Powers
