Melanie Incendere

Melanie was born into the first family of Fernis users in Vanori, the Incendere. The Incenderes were the first bloodline to be the Canicus and Soleil reincarnates. Because of their ancient pedigree, they are one of the most distinguished households in Vanori. After her birth, Melanie established them as one of the most powerful of this era since she is the fourth Incendere to be born a Fernis Apeironite. Her father, Earl Marcallister Incendere of Ascaria, was the patriarch of the Incendere family. Melanie’s mother, Queen Consort Odessa of Hodrana, is the daughter of the lesser Fernis house, Egnatius.   When Melanie was only a toddler, Marcallister had been killed at the Battle of A'mnor widowing Odessa. After his death, Odessa’s standing in society allowed her courtship to the King of Hodrana, Ayden Ellsworth. While the courtship was successful and Odessa became Queen Consort of Hodrana, unbeknownst to Melanie, it came at the cost of her autonomy.   After her mother remarried King Ayden, Melanie grew up living in a strict and rigid environment. Ayden wanted to ensure Melanie would be his most strategic pawn in the esteemed Vanguard. Melanie, while not receiving the official title of princess, was still treated as such. Unlike her older siblings, she received private lessons in combat training and violin courses, had personal staff that attended to her every need, and allowed unfettered access to ancient text. While Melanie did not mind having her every need attended to, she was never allowed to be in the presence of others who were not a part of the royal court or staffing. Her oldest sister, Rexella, was closest in age, but they did not get along, leaving her with no peers to befriend.   Rexella fit well into the life of being a noble since the condescending and surly disposition came naturally to her. This was not true for Melanie, as she understood the implications of being an Apeironite by the daily interactions she would have. The power of the Ohmites comes with a price when harboring. Without learning to control it properly, one powerful release could be the bearer's last. During training to practice control, court staff often remarked how they could feel their core temperatures rising while working on the grounds. All the while, Melanie’s training area was a mile underneath the surface. Because of this, the staff was extremely polite to her and overly cautious for fear of angering and being killed. Melanie wouldn’t kill a fly, let alone harm another soul, but she could sense the uneasiness in every interaction. She didn’t like being feared.   After an Apeironite masters the basics of controlling the Ohmite's power, a ceremonial festival is held to consecrate the reincarnate's mastery. The festival lasts for months as people from all over the continent come to celebrate, and the final day serves as the official ceremony that tests the feats of the reincarnate. Unfortunately for Melanie, that didn’t come to pass. While a ceremony was held to show her feats of accomplishments, there wasn’t a celebratory festival. Melanie was conscripted immediately to serve in the Vanguard.
