Captain Pauline Derrick
A female halfling swashbuckler, with a penchant for adventure. Pauline is the Captain of the Swooning Hawk, and a very proud pirate. She treats her crew well, and her ship just as well- But is known to also be a little tricky when it comes to strangers or enemies. A dastardly pirate at heart, but drawn in by the allure of a new world being discovered far across the sea by the Kingdom of Xoris.
She has a pretty bad relationship with a rival Drow captain, Sczindrella, who was also offered the job of manning an expedition to Kormyr, but whose attempt to go was sabotaged by Pauline, who leaked information about Sczindrella's motive for going to Kormyr. Pauline got the job instead, which pissed off Sczindrella enough to make her want to sabotage Pauline's work, and ship.
Pauline values hard work, other fellow adventurers, and those with the skills to match their ambitions. She looks for people with those qualities and a separation from society to recruit into sailors on her ship, and despite being a pirate, would probably be considered a mercenary by legal standards, given her close relationship with the Kaldreian family.
