Daverin Hosk
Goblin At the The Sandpoint Market a different game, the Goblin toss is held. The game is hosted by stablemaster Daverin Hosk. This game is a simple bean bag toss setup in the middle of the market square. A board is setup with lines of three holes, painted to look like fireplaces. The board is 10 feet from a throw line. There are buckets of beanbags sewn to look like Goblins by each of the three stations. Each bean bag has a Goblin name stitched on it. The goal is to throw the “Goblins” into the fireplaces. During the course of the game it becomes apparent that Daverin has a hatred for the Goblins that evidently borders on the psychotic as he curses the names of the Goblins thrown into the fire. The game is not particularly difficult and when Vannrik throws ‘Garnrott’ the last Goblin the bag shatters on impact, revealing that the beans inside have been painted red, presumably on purpose.

Vannrik's next endeavor, however, is far more ambitious. If they are to continue battling goblins, he must understand them—their language, their words. With Jinx’s help, he asks around and quickly learns that Daverin Hosk, the stablemaster, is perhaps the most knowledgeable about goblins, aside from the absent Shalelu.
Convincing Daverin to teach him will take some effort, but Vannrik knows just how to sway him. With the promise of more dead goblins. The lessons begin tomorrow.

Elsewhere, Vannrik finishes refilling what the town has come to call "Vannrik’s barrels" before making his way to the stables of Daverin Hosk. His goal is simple—to learn the language of goblins . What he does not expect is Daviren’s method.
"If you want to speak like a goblin, first you have to think like a goblin," the stablemaster tells him with a knowing smirk. Goblin speech is chaos. It is instinct over structure, impulse over reason. It is not simply spoken—it is barked, shrieked, yapped in fragmented, fevered bursts. To Vannrik’s initial confusion (and eventual amusement), the lesson does not begin with words but with movement.
He and Daviren spend the better part of the afternoon prancing around the stable, cackling and yipping like goblins. The lesson is absurd, but somewhere in the madness, something clicks. Understanding goblins is not about words—it is about being a goblin, if only for a moment.
