Varisian

Varisians are one of the most widespread peoples of Avistan, with their lands stretching from the ancient homeland of Varisia in the west to the edges of Numeria in the east. They are a short, wiry people with skin tones ranging from tawny and gold to russet-brown, and their hair and eye colors are as diverse as their heritage. While most Varisians have dark eyes and wavy brown hair, rare features like violet eyes or platinum hair are not uncommon.   Outsiders often associate Varisians with wandering merchant caravans, fortune-telling through harrow card readings, and their devotion to Desna, the goddess of dreams. However, Varisians also make up the majority of the permanent population in the great cities of Magnimar, Lepidstadt, and others, where their settled numbers far exceed those of their nomadic relatives.   Common Varisian names include masculine names like Bastian, Guillen, and Oriche; feminine names like Astella, Iguazel, and Merzez; and gender-neutral names such as Cande, Guiomar, and Zorion.
