Personal history
Seryndre is one of only three known Vaelorian Mirror-Elves residing in Fylfnoris—making her a one-in-ten-thousand rarity in the sprawling, morally flexible coastal metropolis. Born to a prestigious High Elf family of the Brightwater Quarter, her birth was seen as both a blessing and a disruption: a child embodying radiance and shadow, prophecy and contradiction.
The High Elves treated her as a symbol.
The Shadar-Kai envoy assigned to observe her treated her as an omen.
Her family treated her as a responsibility.
For the first five decades of her life, Seryndre lived as Kaelion Vaeloria, presenting as male despite her dual-bodied hermaphroditic physiology. At the time, the expectations of her High Elf kin were clear: Kaelion was to be a scholar, a diplomat, and—most importantly—a sire to extend the noble line.
Kaelion complied out of a sense of duty.
He fathered two children with elven noblewomen:
- Aelrindia, now a priestess of the Moon Court
- Maelorin, a sword-dancer and sellsail captain working the Sapphire Coast
Her children still know her and still call her "Father," a dynamic respected within Mirror-Elf culture and delicately misunderstood outside it.
At age 78, Kaelion underwent the Ritual of the Two Mirrors—the rite marking Mirror-Elf adolescence. During the ritual, his reflected self shifted, revealing a luminous, feminine, shadow-kissed form. Kaelion chose the Lusterpath, embracing desire, charisma, glamour, and truth.
From that day, she called herself Seryndre.
Her transformation was physical, emotional, magical—her natural fey glamour harmonizing with her inner identity. She did not “become” female; she allowed her body and soul to align with the aspect that had always whispered beneath her skin.
Fylfnoris is a city where anything can be bought—
salt, silk, secrets, spells, sins, or sovereignty.
Seryndre’s path into mercantile power began almost by accident.
After her transformation, she used her Vaelorian glamour to negotiate safe passage for an endangered cargo belonging to the infamous Blackwake Corsairs. Her ability to read desire, emotion, and truth made her an unparalleled negotiator—pirates, nobles, and smugglers alike found themselves compelled to keep their word around her.
Her first trade successes involved:
- Artifacts smuggled from fey ruins
- Shadowfell relics traded by Shadar-Kai exiles
- Magical luxuries banned in most other ports
Within two decades, she dominated the local market of illicit-but-desired curiosities.
Seryndre’s merchant house, Vaeloria’s Reflections, specializes in:
1. Fey and Shadow curiosities
(living trinkets, whispering stones, dreamwine, spells crystallized in glass)
2. Forbidden arcane commodities
(hexed jewelry, illusion imbued silks, bottled emotions, shadow perfumes)
3. Veilwork contracts
She brokers deals between:
- Fey courts
- Shadowfell clans
- Mortal nobility
- Pirate-kingdom emissaries
Her signature product is Mirror-Silk, a glamour-reactive fabric that subtly shifts colors with mood and lighting.
The Council of Merchants has 12 representatives and 1 Chancellor.
Seryndre occupies the seat of:
“Exotic Acquisitions & Arcane Luxuries”
– sometimes mockingly referred to as the “Pretty Things and Dangerous Things Seat.”
Though not Chancellor, she wields tremendous influence:
- She controls 70% of the magical luxury imports.
- She is the only councilor trusted by both pirates and nobles.
- She can negotiate peace between gangs, guilds, and fey emissaries alike.
Her rivals claim she knows too much.
Her allies claim she sees too much.
Both are correct.
Seryndre is:
- Warm yet intimidating
- Seductive yet sincere
- Calculating yet altruistic
- A lover of beauty but not blinded by it
She lives comfortably with contradiction—
the natural state of a Mirror-Blood.
