Lady Laurelinne - Thalyss
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Lady Laurelinne Thalyss was born into one of Fylfnoris’s oldest High Elf trading dynasties—House Thalyss, famed for their magically enhanced shipbuilding and nautical enchantments. Her childhood was steeped in the smell of cedar hulls, shimmering runes carved into keels, and the echo of waves rolling against the docks.
Blessed with a natural affinity for transmutation and water-aspected arcana, she was apprenticed young to the Sapphire Court’s enchanters and became one of the few high elves trusted to perform the Thalyss Water-Soul Rite—a blessing woven into the heartwood of a ship to make it sail smoother, faster, or quieter.
By her adulthood, Laurelinne was already renowned among captains and merchants as:
- The Pearl-Mage,
- The Tide-Whisperer, or
- The Lady Who Shapes the Sea’s Favor.
✨ Her Bond With Kaelion Vaeloria (Later Lady Seryndre)
Laurelinne first met Kaelion Vaeloria in 1186, when he (at the time using he/him) came to the Thalyss shipworks seeking a vessel to use along the Sapphire Coast. Kaelion, magnetic and sharp-minded even by elven standards, impressed her with his mastery of diplomacy and his keen instinct for the trade winds of politics.
Their relationship blossomed quickly—an intense, passionate entanglement of two ambitious elves:
- Kaelion brought shadow-kissed charisma and Mirror-Elf intuition.
- Laurelinne brought quiet confidence, discipline, and deep arcane knowledge.
They were well matched—emotionally, politically, and in bed.
But both understood the nature of Fylfnoris:
Love is a luxury; legacy is duty.
✨ Birth of Maelorin Vaeloria (1189)
When Laurelinne became pregnant in 1188, she chose to carry the child openly—a rare choice for a high-merchant noblewoman whose life revolved around political maneuvering.
Kaelion, though proud, acknowledged that his path lay beyond child-rearing. His duties, ambitions, and eventual transition decades later would make custodial parenting complicated.
Thus Laurelinne raised Maelorin with dignity and transparency:
- He bore his father’s surname: Vaeloria, by her insistence.
- His early years were split between Tide-Glass Manor and the bustling shipyards.
- Laurelinne placed a sword in his hand early, knowing Kaelion’s lineage tended toward grace and agility.
- She also ensured he was as comfortable on water as on land.
Maelorin grew into a lively, restless spirit—too free for Fylfnoris’ political cage, destined for the sea and sword-dancing.
Laurelinne never resented Kaelion’s absence.
"Some hearts," she often said, "are shaped for horizons I cannot see."
✨ Reaction to Kaelion’s Transition (1207)
When Kaelion embraced her true self and became Lady Seryndre Vaeloria-Kairos, Laurelinne responded with characteristic serenity and support.
They were no longer lovers.
But they had been partners in life for a time, and that bond endured.
Laurelinne honored Seryndre’s new name immediately—and helped smooth the social and political adjustments in noble elven circles, where tradition ran deep.
✨ Present Day (1267)
At 147 years old, Laurelinne Thalyss remains graceful, formidable, and deeply respected.
She oversees:
- A fleet of enchanted trade vessels
- A coterie of young elven enchanters
- Several coastal waystations of the Sapphire Coast
- Her late mother's shipyard management traditions
Her relationship with her son Maelorin is strong—she admires his independence, even if she worries for him constantly.
Her relationship with Lady Seryndre is one of complicated affection:
a mix of friendship, memory, shared legacy, and the strange mirror of what they once were before the tides of identity shifted.
✨ Personality & Mannerisms
Laurelinne is:
- poised and eerily calm
- elegant but never ostentatious
- analytical with a soft undercurrent of melancholy
- known for a voice “like moonlight on water”
- fiercely loyal to those she claims as hers
And though she seems made of tranquility—
her will is iron when tested.
