Learning Languages

In order for your character to learn a new language, you must first find someone who is a higher level speaker than yourself of the language. After you find a teacher you will proceed to scale through the learning process. The first step is becoming a basic speaker, in order to become a basic speaker it will require screenshots of logs of at least five instances of learning the language from another speaker. Similarly, you can achieve the same thing with books, though there must be eight instances of emoting reading the book, with three emotes per instance, over the course of a week and a half. This must occur over at least a week's time. Basic speakers cannot understand complex sentences or words with greater complexity than two syllables. Examples of what a basic speaker would understand, "I like cats.", "I am cool.", "My name is Bob.", "You are dumb.", "We can not do that." In someone's character card, a basic speaker will have a value of '50'.   The next step in the process is becoming a conversational speaker. This cannot be achieved with a book.To move to this step you will need screenshots of logs of at least ten instances of learning the language from another speaker. This must occur over at least an IRL two week period. Conversational speakers can understand semi-complex sentence structures and words up to five syllables. Examples of what a conversational speaker would understand, "The people of this republic stand united.", "Because of this, I must decline your offer.", "The house is very drafty." In someone's character card, a conversational speaker will have a value of '120'.   The third and last step in the process is becoming a fluent speaker. To move to this step you will need screenshots of logs of at least fifteen instances of learning the language from another speaker. This must occur over at least an IRL three week period. Fluent speakers can understand complex sentences and most words. In someone's character card, a conversational speaker will have a value of '190'.   Once you have your logs and other prerequisites, make a global ticket in-game and request to have the language added to your persona card. If you do not have the language on your card you may not use it.

Mundane Languages

These languages are typically fairly easy to learn, comparative to magical languages, and can be learned by a natural golem who merely listens to them. In addition, they do not naturally harm anything.

Magical Languages

These languages are exceedingly difficult to learn and are sometimes referred to as Languages of Truth. They can not just simply be learned from a book. Many Truthseekers learn the language related to those Truths which they seek, as it is frequently easier to comprehend these Truths when explained in the language relating to them. Some magics can allow one to utilize magically languages normally impossible to comprehend or speak.

Language List

Universal Languages

Common | No Prefix | Mundane
This is the standard form of speech, nearly all people with the ability to speak know common. Though nearly everyone is aware of its existence, some people, such as those of beast-folk races and those with languages far removed from its similarity, may struggle with reading, writing and pronouncing common. Example: "This language sounds in small part like this."
Ancient Common | [AC] | Mundane
This is an ancient form of common spoken by creatures and people from before the cataclysm one thousand eras ago. It is more similar to Old English in pronunciation. The literature of this language is often credited to be written by great authors who think of the cadance and alliteration of their sentences to create poetic verse or interesting idioms. Example: "Theys languaage soonds en bawbling parteth liketh soh."
Sign Language | [SL] | Mundane
This is the hand based form of common, it's usually only 'spoken' by the deaf. When written it is brail for the blind.
Rouge Speech | [+RS] | Mundane
Rouge Speech is the language of thieves, rouges and those of the criminal underworld. Its a secret mix of dialect, code, signs/symbols and strangely, almost undeteactable whispers to those who aren't trained to hear them. It allows one to hide messages in seemingly normal conversation as it sound exactly like whatever language itis being used in. It takes four times longer to convey such a message than it does to speak the same idea plainly, for example, Just to say "Hi" could be "The fox stalks now". When writting or speaking in Rouge Speech it is important to add what it sounds like in the normal language. Example: "[GR+RS] Et hoc sonat in lingua modicum quidem sic." but it actually means something else.

Misc. Languages

Drakan | [DK] | Magical

Drakan is the language of dragons, more notably the True Dragons. In written format, it looks much like arabic script, but in spoken form, it sounds like whatever language the listener is most fluent in. Indeed, it is not truly spoken, but transmitted telepathically. Thus, mortals, with the exception of telepaths, are incapable of speaking Drakan, except by making up the sounds in their own mind. It is able to be "spoken" fluently by those who practice Mentalism or some sort of telepathy ability and makes it easier to comprehend Chronomancy when explained in the language. Curiously, a fully formed, personalized Drakan language is said to always be understandable by Draconic beings, though this hasn't been verified by anyone of true note.
