The Grand Hoard
(The contents of this page are NOT common knowledge)
“This Elplantil and the city surrounding the Mistress' Colliseum are the only safe places for us. Amotland is dangerous and unpreditacble so be on your guard out there.”
Introduction
The Grand Hoard is commonly called the Hoard and even spelt Horde. It is an interesting plane that exists in reality but like Niwaedau is bordering the Void, it has parts of it seeped into the Primordial Dream. Located within the hull of the World Tree, it is jokingly referred to by those aware of its existence as an “inter-dimensional locker” as many Greater Beings use it to store away their wealth, trinkets, artifacts, books, tomes, (mistakes) or even the souls of their most devout servants who act as one of the main inhabitants. The plane itself is controlled by The Mistress and is composed of three parts, the first is The Mistress’ Coliseum, simply called the Coliseum, which is a city made of white sandstone and metal inhabited by souls awoken by the Mistress herself. The next are the Elplantils, often called the “sub-realms”. An Elplantil is created by a Greater Being and is where they store away what they wish. In most religions, it is the glorious afterlife their god will take them if worthy. The last is known as Amotlan, the Free Land. It is unclaimed land where the Mistress creates trials using creatures that had been sealed and her own imagination. When beings die within the Grand Hoard they may be used to empower others or will board the Alkestis to head to the fate of most mortal souls. The Claimed Spirits
Often confused with Awakened Spirits, Claimed Spirits are the second (and far more) prevalent denizens of the Grand Hoard. As their name implies a Claimed Spirit is claimed by a Divine being after their death, by that divine paying a tribute to the The Ferryman, in the form of the only currency they accept, the soul of a being who is still alive. They then disappear with their chosen soul in a beam of light. This beam of light will take both to the god’s respective Elplantil. These spirits keep their memories and skills and abilities from when they were alive. They are seemingly entirely normal except for the fact that they bleed a green-like mist when outside the Horde. The Divine Tourneys
Every few Epochs the Mistress holds plane-wide tournaments referred to as the “[Number] Divine Tourneys”. These tourneys range from simple one-on-one combat to group vs groups, to races, craftsmanship, knowledge and effectively all forms of relevant contest. At the end of the tourneys, the winners are rewarded by the Mistress with sealed weapons, tools, Truths or forgotten knowledge. Those who win in the competition are empowered by those who died along the way.The Ascension Tournament
Far more important than the little Divine Tourneys is the Ascension Tournament, the primary reason many Greater Beings even bother with the Grand Hoard. The Mistress is all-powerful within the Grand Hoard and on extremely rare occasions holds a tourney in which Divine+ beings put their Non-Divine champions into a bracket and fight in order to gain the ability to increase their power exponentially. If their champion wins they become a Divine and the Divine that sponsors them, lower Demi-Primordial power. Most times the final two contestants kill each other or cannot kill each other and thus no winner is had. When this tournament is held all from every Elplantil are in attendance to watch. The Layout of the Hoard
Existing mostly in reality with ways to walk into the Primordial Dream, the Grand Hoard is a mix of reality and the dream world. The Coliseum is surrounded by a city on a large piece of land that floats within a giant sphere. Spread around Amotlan, floating in spheres that are slightly smaller are Elplantil’s, each can be physically the size of a multi-district city but depending on the god may have bigger insides. Below the Coliseum and Elplantils is Amotlan, a No Man’s Land continent. It should be noted that the sun and the moon move about space normally, seeming to exist far away from anything.Geography
Mistress’ Colliseum
At the center of the Elplantils and Amotlan is the Mistress’ Coliseum, effectively her own Elplantil. It is a city built around a coliseum, each building made of white sandstone and metal. It is mainly filled with Awakened Spirits and very rarely Claimed Spirits. Those Awakened Spirits are also mainly Rehks or Owlfolk thanks to the nature of their cultures and religions but other awakened spirits of other races are not uncommon. Within the Coliseum, hanging above is a large brass bell that is said to ring once Oloris wakes up, The Mistress has stated that all of the Grand Hoard will hear it but she doubts it will ring before the end of the planes. Fighting is generally only allowed inside the coliseum or when a dual has been declared. The Elplantils
The Elplantils are entirely created by their respective greater being and thus have different geographies and buildings depending on the god's wishes. Gods will regularly create trials in their domains to ensure their followers remain skilled and ready. Each Elplantil has two gates that act as teleporters to the Mistress’ Coliseum or Amotlan. For example, the Brother Elplantil is for the followers of Sequestus and Anomalous. Those claimed by Anomalous are brought to Valsgard, an enormous, splendid hall roofed with the shields of warriors. There they feast, drink, and train. Sequestus’ half of the Brother Elplantil is referred to as Themiter and is a Gravican-esque city of carefully constructed roads, and infrastructure with a need to destroy and construct. The Sylvan Elplantil is for the followers of Aed, Freamh and Ciallmhar. From the outside, it simply looks like a large imposing forest but once one passes into its bounds its splendour is free to see. Those claimed by Aed are brought to Anore a palace completely made of wood and animal servants that lies in the center. Those claimed by Freamh are brought to Fylma, the Golden Fields. It is a village that surrounds Anore with farmland and houses a cooking building and perfect classrooms to teach skills. Lastly, those claimed by Ciallmhar are brought to Cyelian, the Endless Library. On the outside it is a simple building in Fylma but once one enters there is a seemingly endless library of knowledge with enough amenities to simply live within it. The Karlik Elplantil is for the followers of Vykovat and/or his children. It is an incredibly large mountain with rolling hills and some flat land around it. Those claimed by Gorney Karlik are brought to Dewshade, the rolling green hills and farmland with amphitheatres and public kitchens. Those claimed by Karmeny Karlik are brought to Kimdorahl, a dwarf hold that takes up much of the inner mountain. Here, some of the greatest crafters in history work away. Lastly, the rare few taken in by Glubokiy Karlik are brought to Aetherwallow, located deep below Kimdorahl. Here a handful of those who caught Glubioky’s eye toil away at magic. Kaimana’s Elplantil is another Elplantil that is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. A mass of water that contains those brought by Kaimana. Within it are sailors, fishermen, bards and some pirates that worshipped her in life. On the biggest island in the archipelago lies Rivena Sanctuary, the only complete city and one that lies half on land and half underwater. The strangest amongst the Elplantil is the Spirit Realm Elplantil. Here, the followers of various spirits such as Cahiltzur, Raatu, the Three-Eyed Rat, and Bomani bring their notable followers. It consists of a city made of stone and sand, wrapped in vines where the various denizens brought live in harmony only disrupted by tournaments provided by the Mistress. The Rutlita Elplantil is for the followers Ra’uki and consists of a large magical volcano surrounded by a small amount of farmland. Within the volcano is the city of Rutilta despite its location is almost always at a good temperature. Inside the city are various forges and facilities to allow his followers to continue their work and worship to him.Amotlan
Also known as the “Free Land” or “No Man’s Land”, Amotland is usually a continent with several different biomes but after every Divine Tourney the Mistress changes the shape and environment to make a “fresh experience”. She could break it into an archipelago and a continent or two separate ones. The landscapes are similar to the Prime Materia save for lands of raining, silent lightning or snowing ash. Throughout the land are trials made by the Mistress in the form of puzzles, fights or dungeons to delve into, each with rewards to aid in the Divine. There are also invisible paths into the Tourneys.Localized Phenomena
Weather
The weather in all regions of the Grand Hoard works as it would on the Prime Materia.Broken Seals
When divine beings or mortals face a threat they cannot kill the next logical decision is to try and seal it into another space to never be dealt with. Most sealing Truths when used seal their objects or creatures into a confined space in the Primordial Dream that overlaps with Amotlan. If the seal is broken on the reality side, the creature or object is released again. If the creature or object manages to overwhelm that space or walk far enough they will break out into Amotlan. This ensures that if they break out they end up in a realm of beings willing to take on the challenge to handle them or seal them more reliably. When a seal is close to being broken by something that is sealed a green crack will appear in the air where it will break out.Mistress Trials
The Mistress will often create trails and place them around Amotlan or within the coliseum itself. They usually contain incredibly dangerous creatures and traps and those who make it to the end are awarded accordingly.Fauna & Flora
Flora
The flora within the Grand Hoard is generally the same as the Prime Materia save for plants that may be specific to certain gods.Fauna
More appropriately called “Hordelings”. Besides these, some “prototype” versions of animals on the Prime Materia exist on the plane aswell as things known as "dinosaurs". Awakened SpiritsThose who are supernal in their professions, capture the hearts and minds of their peers, or, through their actions, build a life truly worthy of story, earn recognition in the Dream do not find themselves sent to that place which recycles souls back into the magics of the world. Instead, they Awaken in the Horde. Phase Dogs
A phase dog is a creature not unlike a small wolf, covered in shaggy white hair. Presumably fae creatures, they exist halfway between the Primordial Dream and the material plane, frequently hopping from one side to the other. Surprisingly intelligent, friendly, and playful, phase beasts have been known to pick mortals, seemingly at random, to accompany. Phase Spiders
Like a huge spider, six feet in diameter, phase spiders are a milky white form of hunting spider which do not build webs. There are many theories of exactly where phase spiders originate, though most agree that it was likely in the webs connecting the branches of the world. Regardless of where they came from, it is clear that they are bad news for most living things, all of which they view as food. Phase Beasts
Looking like a large, mottled, bruised hairless grizzly bear, Phase Beasts are formidable creatures indeed. Extremely strong, tough, carnivorous, and fairly clever, Phase Beasts are easily capable of taking on a trained and armed opponent in one-on-one combat through sheer force of their strength, but their ability to phase between planes rapidly allows them to set and spring ambushes with great speed and flexibility, making them easily a match for small adventuring groups. Fae Constructs
Only rarely seen outside of the Horde, these constructs are always in the shape of some animal or insect, usually sized up to three or four meters long. Though frequently made of different materials, sometimes wood, sometimes silver, sometimes oddly worked stained glass, like a living, moving mosaic, but always of fine materials.
History
In the beginning, all that existed were the planes. The World Tree had sprouted through the absolute nothingness, and with its sudden arrival into existence, so did come The Serpent Oloris, The Drake Naezeiros, and The Arachnid Nerisys. The three true primordial beings worked into creating the universe into what it is. An endless project of growth and struggle, where all the planes rest separated from one another. In this first beginning, where Oloris had coiled himself around the base of Etes Hevelm, the World Snake began to choke the life from the tree of worlds.
As the Creator Dragon made the first planes he saw his sibling's plan and built a realm to collect worthy beings to one day overpower him. He flaped his three wings to create the Grand Horde, a resting spot for future champions of all planes and created the intricacies of sealing to provide proper sport for the relaxing champions. The plane contained a dangerous landscape similar to the future Prime Materia. And when the Drake finished his creation of all the planes, Awakened Spirits found themselves appearing in the Grand Hoard immediately after their death, and these champions found they could not directly harm each other in this space. Thus, they banded together and built for themselves a city to live out the rest of their existence.
The universal truths went on edge one day, and throughout the beckoning universe, the Cataclysm left all that would be known entirely different. The champions would not even know what had just transpired, but Nerisys was fully aware and intended to fulfill her whims to fully connect all the planes into one beautiful web which she could truly call a masterpiece. Her first assignment, however, was to use her primordial gifts on that which she created, and so she did.
At a specific moment in time, without the champions knowing who did so, or even why…the World Spider laid an egg, an event that took much of her strength and time as creation was the duty of her brother. From this egg came the new leader of the plane. The Mistress was born, bursting from her egg in her true form and knew her duty, to grasp upon the various divine and force their fates to intertwine. She claimed her place as the leader of the plane by defeating the champions within and demonstrating her powers. She turned their simple city for the arriving champions into a floating city with her home, the Mistress’ Coliseum in the middle, and there she placed herself upon a throne to rule. She peered into the Primordial Dream within her home, plucking the worthy souls from the Alkestis and into the Hoard as was her duty since the Calamity had disturbed the ability for worthy beings to enter.
After Grystuss was defeated she extended an invitation to the The Seven Mortal Gods to create afterlife paradises worthy of their followers. Each took to creating their realms based on their facets. And thus the Grand Hoard now came to be.
