Ever wondered what horrors encircle our sacred worldtree?
It's events time again and I'm back to try and do all of them. Since there's no minimum wordcount I've started off by listing a description of each of the monsters below. I will try and continually flesh these out as my time and schedule allows me to but my life is a bit busier than when summer camp happened so please be aware my work may be scarce.
The Overall story
I decided to try and make a set of beasts that surrounded the worldtree, originally I wanted to try and make a selection of short stories but I'm unsure if that's possible on the current timescale. Since I might make prose and species or myth articles for each of these, but I need generic articles to submit, I'm going to make these specific articles reminiscent of the SCP files.
Instead of SCP I've chosen to list them as SP (Spook) files, and I will try and add classification and maybe a bit of how to mitigate their affects and whims. I want these monsters to seem terrifying but also, with the right preparation and knowledge, able to be handled. I want it to sort of feel like dealing with the fae, but if the fae were deadly and trying to kill you in multiple ways.
I got alot of help in my ideas and their presentation from the challenge discussion and people in my WorldAnvil chapter the cookie cottage, especially on not just making things deadly but dealing with fates worse than death.
Winter and the Worldtree
The Worldtree is a massive tree, but the world of Nouvellian still experiences seasons and seasonality, so what happens when it's winter for the worldtree? Well, without the sun, the worldtree has to find alternative ways to get it's nutrients, and with all the religious pilgrimages and people plundering the tree's magical byproducts there's an excess of warm bodies around the tree. So, the tree, in it's way, found a way to make use of all these excess people by possessing and warping various creatures and environmental effects into horrors it can harvest.
