The Kingdom of Ilfrindor

Structure

Ilfrindor is ruled by a king, and has many nobles who follow a pretty traditional feudal structure, with Knight being the lowest titled rank.

Assets

Ilfrindor is a relatively militant soceity, especially with their recent mobilization to attack the Underkingdom. They possess a mid-sized, well-organized army with individually skillful warriors, unrivaled battle-mages, and flying sky-ships able to quickly deploy marines and provide air support.

History

Founded by high elves coming north from Ilquessir, the colony of Ilfrindor rapidly expanded into the untamed wildlands of Iandas. They settled on a ley-line confluence point, naming it Earth-heart, and built their homes int he caves and forests where an underground river emerged onto the surface.
Generations later, after the nearby nations (the Arcadian duchy of Crossroads and the primarily dwarven Underkingdom) had been met and firm borders established, the capital was moved to Caleska, which became the largest city in the kingdom.
During the Bloodwar, Caleska created a powerful mythal, causing the city to rise up in the air out of danger. The river it had been built around filled the gap left beneath, and a wide lake now sits under the floating city.
Recently, the capital city has been sealed within a magical bubble of powerful magic, preventing anyone or anything from getting in or out. No one knows why the king would do this, or if he did.

Demography and Population

Primarily made up of high elves, with the next significant demographics being wood elves and avariel. Non-elves are rarely welcomed in Ilfrindor, though it is possible to earn that privilege.

Territories

All of the forest east of the barrier range in Iandas, from the coast to the Scar, are claimed by the King. Ancient treaty with Arcadia established the borders to the west.

Military

For elves, the Ilfrindori are a relatively militaristic society. Their armies and their mighty sky-navy are the external and internal security forces of Ilfrindor. Within each branch of service, troops are divided into the Akh’Velahr, troops fighting with mostly conventional weapons and tactics, and the magic-based Akh’Faern, made up of the spellcasters that support and lead troops. Though the elven military is relatively small, the legendary skill and expertise of elven warriors has proven time and again that someone who can spend 40 years learning to wield a master-crafted spear is always going to beat a malnourished human peasant with a fire-hardened sharpened stick.
The crown of their armed forces, however, belongs to the sky-navy, those mighty flying ships and their daring, heroic crews. Though airship technology was created in Ilquessir, it was in Ilfrindor that it was perfected, allowing for vessels that flew higher, farther, and faster. Therefore the sky-navy is celebrated in their culture, and valued in their strategies.

Technological Level

The principal technological superiority of Ilfrindor is unquestionably its skyships, which are better than any others in the world. The secret to their creation is jealously guarded. Overall, however, the Ilfrindori enjoy an average level of technological availability.

Religion

Though there is no official religion, the elven pantheon holds obvious sway over life in this almost-exclusively elven population.

Foreign Relations

Although diplomatic ties have been made with their neighbouring states, recent events (the Arcadian civil war and the Kingless War with the Underkingdom) have made those strained.

Agriculture & Industry

Elves excel at striking a balance with nature, and do not cultivate large areas of natural land to support their cities. Even a large city like Caleska only has a small amount of agricultural land near it.
As for industry, the elves tend to rely on magic and magitech more than mechanisms or industrialization. They general consider steam and gunpowder to be gauche.

Trade & Transport

The trade network of Ilfrindor relies primarily on the skyships, though some settlements (especially near the borders) engage in a more traditional exchange with specially vetted, permitted caravans from nearby lands.

Education

Almost all Ilfrindori citizens receive extensive, state-funded educations, lasting entire human lifetimes, as well as some training in magic. After their school years, young elves often take up apprenticeships or enter the Royal Academy to study the Art.

Infrastructure

The Ilfrindori tend to favor magical solutions to their problems, and rely heavily on the Art to solve problems like "how do we get drinking water to a floating city?"
