The Deshir Interregnum War is an international conflict that is triggered after the death of the former Deshir Emperor and assassination of the next Emperor Candidate by Rebel forces. It started out as a domestic conflict, but alliances were forged and international interventions were staged throughout the war.

The Conflict

Prelude

Following the unexpected death of the Desh Emperor in early Edramet, the Sultanate of Desh was thrown into a political crisis. The long-held bureaucracy of the Sultanate, which held much power over the ruling Sultan family, quickly began preparations of the new arriving Sultan. As per traditions, the Sultan's children were raised away from the Grand Palaces of Umbolo, the capital of Desh, and were raised by servants, family members, and esteemed friends of the Sultan whom had earned their trust. The Sultan's first born son was quickly rushed by the Epoch from his uncle's estate and, while on route to Umbolo, was betrayed by the Epoch soldiers and killed on the 5th of Namareth, 1884. The news reached the bureacrats of Umbolo quickly, who had not planned for the assassination and were confused on how it took place.   Shortly afterwards, on the 12th of Namareth, 1884, an exiled son known as Şemseddin revealed himself as the master assassin and proclaimed the Epoch soldiers were loyal to him. Additionally, he declared the large bureaucratic government of Desh as traitors to the empire and promised to free the nation from its grasps once he had become emperor. The government soon began to rally soldiers, with much of the army had already defected to the Emperor's side leaving the nation in crisis. The first fighting took place on the 28th of Namareth.

Deployment

By 1886, conflicts in Desh and the instability began to affect nearby powers. Trade in Sereneaux was being halted due to rogue pirates and unrestricted naval warfare, as well as skirmishes in the southern Drausk borderlands with bandits and rogue militaries.   In 1886, the Emperor of Desh proposed an alliance with the Holy Alliance, made up of Drausk, Sereneaux, and Orsay to help reestablish him as the primary ruler. Drausk and Sereneaux, both absolutist monarchies, agreed wholeheartedly - however Orsay could not commit forces due to the continuation of the Caerrowyn Civil War on its northern border. After Drausk's forces entered into Desh, the government bureaucracy began sending letters to Azora for aid.   One of its oldest allies, Adraus, replied and began to make preparations for war. For a long time, Sereneaux and Adraus had been fighting a cold war over the midlands of Southern Azora and the events in Desh had shown to be the natural consequence of this infighting. By late 1886, over 100,000 Azoran forces would be active in Desh.

Aftermath

The failure of the emperor to reestablish himself as the core ruler, led to the defeated Şemseddin to make a shadow bargain with the bureaucracy of the Old Sultanate behind his allies backs. This deal, known forever in Azora as "The Backhanded Bargain", allowed Şemseddin to claim the throne but also created an impenetrable legal barrier that would forever prevent change within the bureaucracy from the Emperor's hand, either from his own or for future generations.   In Sereneaux and Drausk, the twin nations of the Holy Alliance saw the backhanded deal as an insult to their efforts. They began to fund bandit efforts to demoralize allies of Desh, but little came from this and only worsened their economic downturns caused by the war. Furthermore, Sereneaux and Drausk, due to their alliance with emperor Şemseddin during the war, were forced to make newer, worser deals with the new government which hindered their efforts on the Desh subcontinent.   Adraus, on the other hand, which only really controlled minute ports along Desh's southern coast, quickly arose as a major trading power in the Desh region, as well as gaining rights to post military officials within the region to train soldiers, sell weapons, and use naval dockyards. Adraus, while unhappy with the war's end due to the lack of say in it, left with more than it entered with and was able to create a newer, stronger alliance with the Desh government which has fruitfully flowered into a wonderful friendship between nations. However, the efforts and mass casualities of the war allowed Adraus to look inward on its military. Theoderich, utilizing the reports and death tolls, began to make efforts to create new systems in the military to allow peasants to join officer ranks and to slowly and carefully remove the aging noble officers' clubs which had long hindered the Adrausii military from reaching true military strength.
