Those most ancient of Dragons, sometimes called Greatwyrms, are dragons that have reached the fifth and final stage in a Dragon’s life span. When an ancient Dragon comes to the end of its life, instead of passing away there is a small chance that the dragon continues to grow in power, becoming immensely powerful instead of dying, transcending their former selves to become immortal Quasi-Deities.
Bahamut and Tiamat, the first Dragons, are sometimes categorised as Archdragons, with only four other Dragons recorded to ever reach this stage of growth.
