Allesar

Allesar is the capital of Allesend and is the largest city in the nation. It was established under the rule of Barisea when Allesend was still a province of the ancient republic. Later, it was the heart of the Allesend Empire, from which God-Emperor Alles-Taluus ruled the continent-spanning empire.   Allesar is built on the coast and features an artificial bay with a small entrance. Two castles defend this pass, and a heavy chain can be raised to block entrance into the bay. Allesar's port is the third largest in Allethra, behind the ones in Daripur and Bronzehall.

Industry & Trade

Allesar is a trade hub for the nation of Allethra. Produce, particularly grapes and olives, are shipped to the city and either sold at port or processed into other goods, such as wine and oil.   In previous centuries, Allesar was the major trade port for goods coming out of Celestina. Merchants from Allesar had built relationship with craftspeople from the island nation over hundreds of years. In recent years, however, trade has grown scarce as Celestina's xenophobia has increased.

History

Allesar was founded in 751 BE by the Barisean Senate to serve as the capital of their western provinces. It quickly grew into a bustling port town, serving as a central Trade hub with the rest of the continent.   In 592 BE, when Allesend was granted its independence by Barisea, Allesar became its capital. The former governor's palace was transformed into a Rotunda for Alln Senators to meet.   In 1 AE, God-Emperor Alles-Taluus rose to power and dissolved the Alln Senate. He established Allesar as the capital of the new, continent-spanning Allesend Empire. After all the nations of Allethra were brought under his command, Alles-Taluus began the reconstruction of the city, revitilizing its infrastructure and organization. Under his rule, the people of Allesar thrived.   After the downfall of the Allesend Empire in 320 AE, the new nation of Allesend was overcome with internal strife. Though Allesar remained the capital of the country, rivaling factions fought fiercely for control. More than one of these battles occurred in the city itself, and the scars of those battles remain to this day.   Allesar became the home of the Alln Parliament during the restructuring of the empire in 333 AE.   In 350 AE, the Friday Revolution began in the streets of Allesar. A mob of peasants stormed the Imperial Palace and Parliament, taking the emperor and representatives captive. After other peasants across the country raided other nobles' estates and castles, Parliament passed the Peasant Dissolution Act, eliminating the peasant class and giving all citizens the right to vote and run for office.

Allesar was once the center of the world. The heart of the continent-spanning Empire that ruled Allethra, its culture pumped through the arteries of the Imperial Highways to all corners of known civilization. Palaces, universities, halls of feasting and competition, markets with goods stacked as high as mountains. All of that still remains to this day, but the city is nothing but a shell of its former self. The facade is maintained, but empty houses and desolate streets tell the real truth of Allesar. No longer does a God-Emperor rule from the opulent Citadel. Instead, corruption and rot rule the city.
