Bronzehall

Also known as "The Bell," Bronzehall is the largest city in Edrana and its center of commerce. With a population of over 900,000 people, it is the second-largest city in Allethra, exceeded only by Daripur in Hiladhel. It is known for the ubiquitous bronze plating covering the city that both generates energy and keeps the city much cooler than the surrounding area. Built on and around two hills (named Copper and Tin Hill), the metropolis covers a roughly 3-mile radius around its central feature, The Foundry.   Bronzehall exports a large portion of the produce grown in Edrana, mostly due to innovations in refrigeration within the city. It also exports about 40% of all iron and steel ingots used in Allethra.   Chalice University is located on Tin Hill. While smaller than Eshad University in Daripur, Chalice caters more broadly to adventurers.

Industry & Trade

Ore from mining settlements in the Reshdul Mountains is smelted into iron and steel ingots in The Foundry. These ingots are sold to merchants and trade companies, who ship them around the world. Recently, Bronzehall has begun smelting silver mined near Silvermere.   Produce grown in the western regions of Edrana is brought here by cart and stored in refrigerated warehouses before being shipped out by sea.   Harkkorp Industries utilizes excess power from The Foundry to develop technology. Due to the nature of their power source, products developed by Harkkorp Industries only work within the borders of the city. Nevertheless, these have become essential to everyday life in Bronzehall.

Infrastructure

The Foundry is the center of the entire city. Its magic allows bronze metal to absorb energy and power both its furnaces and the rest of the city. This magic covers a roughly circular 3-mile radius. Very little exists outside of this radius, though the sheer number of people living in Bronzehall has begun to force the construction of unpowered "suburbs."   The Bolt is a high-speed rail line connecting most of the city. Built and maintained by Harkkorp Industries, it is used as an essential tool for workers to commute from their home to their employment.   Bronzehall features a long shoreline of docks, where merchant ships come to buy and sell. Warehouses are common in this area, and many of them are refrigerated to store perishable food items.   Two parks have been constructed in the city, Arches and Seaside Park. Arches is nestled below Copper Hill, while Seaside overlooks the bay from a cliff.

Guilds and Factions

More than 30% of Bronzehall's population is employed in some way by the Bronzesmiths. Whether they work The Foundry directly, or in some other indirect fashion, the financial backbone of the city is formed by this workforce.   On 23 May 441 AE, a strike was organized by workers dissatisfied with unsafe work environments, unfair wages, and long workdays required by the Bronzesmiths. Headed by Immortal Forger Davien Menskar, the strike lasted until 8 July 441 AE. By this time, almost 80% of all workers, and every single Immortal Forger, had joined. The Forger's Union was finally recognized by the Bronzesmiths, who begrudgingly accepted Menskar's demands.

History

The city of Bronzehall was founded in 113 AE when a group of settlers discovered The Foundry. Those settlers became the Bronzesmiths, the ruling noble family. Thousands of immigrants moved to the region to satisfy the need for miners and smelters.   During the Plague, Bronzehall's ports were quarantined by the rest of the Empire, and production in the Foundry stagnated. After the Immortals emerged, the city experienced a new surge in growth as experienced Foundry workers returned to their jobs. At least seven Bronzesmiths became Immortals.   In 423 AE, renowned mage Dahlia Harkk developed a method to harness the energy collected by the Foundry. Utilizing this power, she founded Harkkorp Industries, which designs and manufactures technology to sell in the city.
