Wexfall County
Overview
The south quarter of Irvona, Wexfall County, stands as a testament to resilience and transformation. Once known for its mage-oppressive rule and tumultuous history, Wexfall County's capitol is now a small city on the right path. Wexfall's government plays taxes to the leaders of Polisto, but otherwise enjoys a great deal of atonomy. Once you range beyond the manors that surround the city, you quickly find yourself in the less savory territory.Port Wexfall
The port city of Wexfall appears to be a beacon of excellence in a region of the world that needs a role model. The city's past is marked by darkness and tyranny. Established housands of years ago by mage-hating nobles from Polistopolis, it has always been notorious for its harsh treatment of spellcasters and unsavory practices such as slave trading and sanctioned assassinations. Polisto's nobility frequently replaced the rulers of Wexfall, only to see the new Duke or Dutchess slowly reinstitute the persecution of spellcasters. One hundred and seventy years ago the ruling families of Wexfall were unmasked as a clan of doppelgangers who had been usurping control of the city since it was established in antiquity. Mages from across Erda came to Wexfall to cleanse it, and the city literally burned. Divination spells indicated that all doppelgangers who had resided in the city were either slain or were now more than 500 miles away. Some mages used their magic to help rebuild the city, and the local opinion of arcane casters was further improved. A hero of the conflict, Henka Eyeburn, was named Dutchess of Wexfall. Dutchess Eyeburn was able to not only rebuild the city and institute reforms, ten years into her reign she managed to defeat an invasion of Dourdul soldiers and knights which the leaders of that country clamed was unsanctioned. Eyeburn produced no heir and, as she aged, her council attempted to usurp control. Eyeburn responded by creating the Wexfall Knight's Congress, a body of twenty-one legislators, seven were city based soldiers and fourteen were the manor lords she had previously established across the region. Upon her death Polisto replaced five Knight's Congress members with other residents of the region but named no Duke or Dutchess. Since that time Polisto has treated the rural Knight's Congress positions as hereditary, though at times a descendant or two would die mysteriously before an heir was officially recognized. The seven city-based positions have decade long charters held by Knights of the Lance, Wexfall City Guards, or by battle hardened clergy. While the city of Wexfall continues to have a good reputation, the last few decades have seen the county's manor knights fall into disarray. Some areas are nearly lawless while others are oppressed by cruel masters. A few of the local knights have even begun to attend tournaments and balls hosted in Dourdul. Giants have raided from the Auchelle mountains and there are rumors of a dragon hunting in the marshlands around Ahleah.Regional Villages and Manor Knights

Ahleah Marshlands
The Ahleah marshlands cover approximately one third of Wexfall County. The marshlands are the home to many vile creatures. Venomous snakes, sharkturtles, swamp spiders, and catoblepas compete for territory with goblins and hags. A single elevated causeway crosses the wetlands, connecting the village of Cyr in the north to the village of Mistletoe in the south. Approximately half way along the causeway, the walled town of Ahleah offers safetly to travellers. The Town of Ahleah
This isolated community within the swamp is controlled by religious zealots. It's characterized by its theocratic governance, cult-like practices, and suspicion of outsiders. While a major trade route passes through Ahleah, the town is self-sufficient, relying on fishing, agriculture, and swamp resources. The inns in the town are controlled by the local priests, and all proceeds from the inn go into their pockets.
