The Lux Valley

The northern border of Irvona is, and has always been, the tree line on the southern slopes of the Mountains that rise in Eydolmyn to the North. A second parallel range, known as the Nyrkeshield Mountains, creates a wide fertile river valley. The Lux river gives this region its name.   Prior to the formation of Irvona the Lux valley was shared by dwarves, elves, and humans. Long after the elves left the area, and immediately after the dwarven kiingdom of Twergheim fell, thousands of Kentish troops marched to the valley at Polisto's request. They fortified the local towns and villages and established the Dutchy of Lux, a Kentish Protectorate. Duke Laris Van Husk, a man with paternal ties to Polisto and a Kentish mother, was able to hold back the hoggoblin and demon horde that had plundered the dwarf lands.   The Van Husk family ruled the Dutchy of Lux for 150 years with little to no help from Polisto. Over time Kentish financial support waned, and the seat of power, Castle Stenbänken, was sealed when its magical properties failed to function. The forces of evil regrouped, with Polisto largely ignoring the area.   The region would have been lost completely if it wasn't for three things. First, the Kentish fortifications in the region proved to be strong enough for many of the settlements to fend off the unorganized humanoids. Second, for several decades after Kent's withdraw the Griffon Knights of Vulkenbyen remained strong enough to break sieges and destroy the wild beasts that accompanied the invaders. And third, the formation of the Boarmeet Pact to the south of the Nyreshield range, with its political ties to Posiisto, gave potential aggressors a reason to fear retribution if they were to attempt to establish roots within Irvona's established borders.   Vulkenbyen, which existed prior to the formation of Lux, possesses the records of Lux.
