The Boarmeet Region

One hundred and twenty years ago cults from western and southern Irvona formed a bandit army to harass the towns in eastern Irvona, which they perceived as easy targets given lack of interest in the region from Polisto. Many towns were pillaged and a few were burned to the ground. Boarmeet, a walled town that was largely ignored by the roving bandits, organized its own army. Augmented by a company of gnomish cavalry from Gonogadoe and a dozen Griffon riders from Vulkenbyen, the Boarmeet army routed the bandits at the Battle of Two Winters, when a late season snowstorm allowed their number to be tracked.   Kirk Stronglock, commander of Boarmeet's forces, was seen as a hero by the local populace. He was crowned King of the Eastlands upon his return to the town. This angered the Council of Equanimity in Polisto and Stronglock's reign was cut short by an assassin. When representatives from the region's towns and villages gathered three months later to commemorate the first anniversary of the Battle of Two Winters a mutual defense council was formed. Each settlement agreed to field their own soldiers sworn to protect "Irvona", while the churches of the region hired mercenaries from Doradell to keep peace on the roads.   The Boarmeet Pact has held for 119 years. Regular skirmishes with bandits, goblins, and a few giants have cemented trust in the pact. Representatives from Polisto, known as the Inspectors, make a yearly audit of each town's militia, their defenses, mercenary payments, and law enforcement records. This review is widely viewed as an indication that Council of Equanimity considers the pact legitimate provided that the appearance of administrational oversite is not dispelled. There are even rumors that a few merchant families from Polisto are now helping to fund the mercenary units, as the peaceful countryside has allowed land-based trade to the lands of Boorum and Doradell to increase their coffers.
