General Summary
Undertaking Rogue Necromancer the adventuerers Jimbo, Metgro, Nameless BAA, Alahazra, Damiel, Imrijka started their exploration of a nearby island and found an odd red light eminating from it, beginning their assault the defeated some of the initial guardians and then took down a Flesh Golem as well as one of the necromancers apprentices.
Dropping the necromancer the group takes some time to catch their breath and heal up a bit. Looking over the necromancer and digging through some of the material BAA (Perception 32) finds and points on some information on the apprentice necromancer who is a surface elf (https://www.worldanvil.com/w/enides-gengler1123/a/nikael-person?preview=false) and his master (https://www.worldanvil.com/w/enides-gengler1123/a/gibrand-person) to get that the two of them have a generally positive relationship. Concern quickly turns to "What the hell is that energy emission?" Metro (Knowledge Arcana 22) recognizes it as some sort of portal to some other plane, that seems to be less material coming through and more some sort of energy, but can't identify any more beyond that.
The golem is generally unknown specifics, Metgro (Knowledge Arcana 19) it's clearly made of flesh and sewn together, but he's unable to put a point to it.
Metgro wanting to interrogate the apprentice before heading back to the Point of Nematu casts Charm Person on him while he's unconsious and feels the spell take effect, everyone then gets the apprentice back awake and surprisingly okay with everyone being around.
Jimbo takes the lead for the interrogation, the apprentice starts to go over this being a relatively new outpost for his group and he had thought that between the older zombies, skeletons, and his golem would have been enough to defend himself, and is distraught about the losses. (Simple Advice Level DC 11 - Jimbo Diplomacy 15)
Pivoting towards what happened with the Nematan scouts, and the one you talked to in particular, he starts to mention that while he had captured a few of them "Hey, they just walked right in" and did some experiments on them, the scout you spoke with was captured by his master (Gibrand) and he's the one who broke his mind to use as a messenger "It must not have held"
Jimbo pushes for more information, but even with the apprentice being friendly isn't able to procure much more detailed information about his master, or more details about the portal than you've managed to figure out yourselves. When asked who he's affiliated with he mentions that he's affiliated with The Quel'Nathreal (https://www.worldanvil.com/w/enides-gengler1123/a/the-quel-nathreal-organization) and the Quel'Nec'Nathrian (https://www.worldanvil.com/w/enides-gengler1123/a/quel-nec-nathrian-ethnicity?preview=false) in particular. Everyone tries to tell if he's being disingenuous or not and seems to be telling the truth.
Hauling him back the the Point of Nematu the next day you throw him into the a cell and meet up with Major Cherzran and fill him in on the details, he seems somewhat satisfied that you've removed some of the threat, and picked up more information, "But you haven't actually finished the contract, so what I'm supposed to pay you for a half finished job?" Jimbo pulls him aside and walks him through what happened and that the contract wasn't as straightforward as it first seemed as, and finishing this the right way will take more resources. Given that they brought in the apprentice alive, they have a better chance to get the necromancer on their side. (Jimbo Diplomacy 26), playing on his ability to walk him through, and their previous working together, Cherzren agrees to pay 3/4 of the amount promised (18750 gp) and will update the bounty (and the amount of gold promised) to figure out the situation with the master. With fresh gold and the desire for some breathing room, the day passes as people ask you stories about the adventure in the inn.
