    Eltharas and Life
    Era beginning/end

It is debated whether the gods created or found Eltharas. In either case they are considered to have taken interest in the world of Eltharas from this time. It is said they gave Eltharas the ability to host life. Great debate arises between them in what purpose Eltharas has and how they should interact with it.

    Labours of the Titans
    Celestial / Cosmic

The gods in their uneasy balance have watched life become more than as it has grown and changed as per their design. Now it takes greater shapes and looks primed to become even more. Moradin comes to the others and tells them his thoughts.

DracheZeit - The Time of Dragons
    Artistic creation

Both Bahamut and Tiamat decide to bring forth creatures on Eltharas in their image, dragons are essentially given dominion over Eltharas. Eventually, some conflicts begin to arise between their creations over desirable regions. As always Bahamut seeks for some order in the way the Dragons comport themselves, and an equity in the way they claim their regions. By contrast, Tiamat simply declares that what her children can take, they may.

    The Elven Era
    Artistic creation

Corellon seeing what their siblings have done, bringing forth the dragons, decides to bring Elves forward onto Eltharas. It is said Corellon's intent is that smaller peoples, made to cluster into communities can engage with the world given to them in a more intimate way. And use community as a sort of strength, combining their abilities and learning to become more.

    Crafted of Stone
    Artistic creation

it is said that Moradin sees how The Elves favour the forests and the shorelines, even the grasslands. Moradin had always admired the rough peaks and strong bones of the mountains. The way they rose so far into the sky they encouraged the sky to lace them with snow and changed the way rains fell. So, he delved deep under the deepest mountains and he took the stone, infusing it with the life and movement of the magma of the mountain depths to make Dwarves. He then encourages them to make the mountains their homes and to make the most of the mountain's bounty. He gives them the inspiration to delve for metals and gems and to shape them, as they shape the stone itself to craft their homes.

    Hills and Valleys
    Artistic creation

Avandra and Erathis see the Dwarves and Elves and know that they are good. But they, too, see other possibilities. Avandra and Melora collaborate on the creation of Halflings, giving them a love of the valleys and the woods, like the Elves, a love of the bounty of nature as gift from Melora, some slight gift of fortune from Avandra and a tendency to seek hollows and tunnels to find their homes somewhat akin to the Dwarves. Erathis and Melora see a place for a people that will become known as Gnomes. Again, an even smaller people, and encouraged to the hills where they can harvest and delve each in some measure. And given a good measure of the creativity and invention that is what Erathis loves most, they become friends to the Dwarves, Halflings, and Elves that they live alongside. In this way the three goddesses hope that by creating more diversity, and some likeness between them, greater understanding between the peoples of the earth will result. Eventually the gnomes take up the tools of the Dwarves and expand of them, turning them to growing, and harvesting, moving water, and building structures for safety and warmth.

The Decimation

War between the gods on Eltharas

  • 1000 DEC

    Matron of Ravens
    Celestial / Cosmic

The great experiment of Eltharas takes a turning point when a mortal woman achieves such mastery of the weave and connection with the gods of the firmament that she is set apart from all mortals before her. Not much is known of the particulars, but she goes so far as to speak with the gods. In particular she draws the interest of the god of death. It is said the god of death has contemplated the coming of this event and the nature of their role since the start of The Seeding. Something happens, and in the ultimate expression of their being and their purpose the god of death dies. And in so doing the Matron of Ravens is elevated into that role. She becomes hereafter the goddess of death. Does she walk with the gods before this? Does she understand what is to come? Does she foresee it? Does the god of death elevate her, or is he usurped? Murdered?

  • 1000 DEC

    Decimation Begins
    Disaster / Destruction

The rise of the Matron of Ravens causes great consternation among the gods. Asmodeus is enraged and suggests that mortals should not be allowed to break from their dominion and that the great experiment has failed. Thus, the mortal world should be destroyed. Gruumsh, awaiting no response from any others strikes out with glee. Bahamut warns against unearned violence and seeks to constrain these outrages. Tiamat simply laughs and says what can be taken must be, and eyes the other gods, and their children with a hunger before unseen. Corellon cannot abide the destruction and takes up arms against Gruumsh, they go to war and in the end Gruumsh loses an eye. Moradin finds his craft turned to the creation of weapons. A great conflict occurs between the gods for a long time. They tear at Eltharas as they make war on each other. The very nature of the plane is torn as the gods bring forth powers and servants from their own domains or their own being.

  • 1200 DEC

Decimation Ends - The God Pact
    Era beginning/end

Great destruction and change has been wrought on Eltharas for two centuries. The great experiment is near to breaking. Angels and fiends walk Eltharas making war for and against their gods. Dragons and giants, somewhat akin to the Titans before them, but much closer to the mortals caught up in the war, battle each other constantly. The gods also strike at each other directly.

The Mortality

1201 CE and beyond

The Gods leave Eltharas in the hands of the Mortals

  • 1201 CE

    The Moratlity begins
    Celestial / Cosmic

The period known as The Mortality, also known by some as The Isolation or The Abandonment, delineates the time after which the Gods no longer directly walk on Eltharas. The Mortality identifies all the time hereafter when the Mortals of Eltharas are considered largely responsible for their own destiny. Though the gods still have influence and exert considerable power over Eltharas, they do not steer or shape events so directly or completely as during The Decimation and before. For better or worse. Some academics would argue this is the beginning of Mortals truly having self determination. It is notable that some phenomena closely linked to Eltharas are still attributed to the gods, such as Kord creating storms, Pelor moving across the sky, or the appearance of Sehanine and her children at night, in turn created by Zehir. Whether this is because they can still exert this much control over Eltharas, appearing directly, or that these phenomena are results of their agents, acting on their behalf is debated by theologians at times. However, most accept that they are merely a result of the system of the world the gods have put in place. The Sun must pass across the sky as Eltharas rotates as it circles it, as Pelor decreed. The system of the world is their legacy, and they can influence it, but it continues without their direct intervention.

    The Crimson Surge
    Military: War

Flights of Red Dragons contend with the Dwarves of the EarthSpine mountains. Further south, White dragons also contend with both the Red Dragon and the Dwarves for dominion over parts of the mountain range. Certain eastern parts of the EarthSpine mountains, and the lowlands there are eventually lost to the Dwarves. It is known that Gnomish forces support the Dwarven resistance in some areas. Some Dwarves and Gnomes seek safety much deeper down into the earth and begin to fracture into their own colonies within what becomes known as the Underdark. Common understanding is that these splinter groups became Duergar and Svirfneblin, though opinion is somewhat divided on this especially among Dwarves and Gnomes themselves.

  • 1700 CE

    War of the Hills
    Military: War

Contention for lowlands and hills bordering the EarthSpine mountains breaks out into war as Elven forces move to secure their forests and drive Gnomes out of the foothills of the EarthSpine. Dwarves march in defence of the Gnomes and their own claims, resulting in an all out war between the Dwarven and Gnomish faction and the Elves. Halflings become involved on both sides. Other forces, such as Orcs and goblinkind that also contend for space in the forests take advantage and conquer some areas. It is said that Dwarves are largely driven from the Kordway at this time. Some consider the fast growing Human population put pressure on the Elven reign and pushed the Elves into the violent stance that produced the conflict.

  • 1800 CE

    Elven Fall
    Disbandment

After many losses over previous centuries, and likely due to some infighting, Elven consolidated rule of much of the region breaks down. Orcish and Goblinoid forces rise and take advantage of the mayhem to capture some regions. Eventually, the whole region becomes an easy target for Giants coming from the mountains and across the Azurgulf to stake claim to various parts of the map. Their strength is only challenged by several dragons who rise up in anger or arrive from elsewhere to also claim their own regions and control of local populations. From this time forward the whole region essentially becomes fractured into warring factions ruled by these powerful entities. Although many elven towns or cities remain in some form over this period, even if only in memory, five significant settlements of note are considered to be lost permanently.

    The DryftCzar asserts Calendar
    Scientific achievement

The current DryftCzar declares a universal calendar and asserts the Enlightened Calendar to be the Eltharas standard. He also declares the beginning of the year 2500 and the current date to be the first of that year. The calendar is eventually broadly adopted in most places. The Dryft Empire then asserts the dates of earlier events, placing them on the Calendar they now dictate, arcing back to the beginning of Eltharas. There is significant debate in academic circles about the placing of these events, though they are largely taken as truth within the Dryft Empire. The dates presented here are placed on the doctrine of the Dryft, as they are most widely adopted by those that believe these events can be dated. The broadness or convenience of the dates tend to suggest they are at best broadly representative.

    Silver Shadon
    Gathering / Conference

Before the first rays of dawn on the first day of this year a Silver Dragon appeared silently on the highest remaining Giant ruin of Port Zaram. The great silver dragon stays a year, and by the dawn of the first day of the following year has disappeared. It is also widely said that crime rates in the city during this time drop noticeably.
