Steinwark

Steinwark is the Capital of the Esterreach Electorate in Khurabil. It sits at the easternmost point of the region and is noted for the massive wall at its eastern side that separates Khurabil from The Unclaimed Lands and the land bridge that leads to them.

The major feature of Steinwark is the massive wall that crosses the whole of the land bridge and cleanly separates Khurabil from the unclaimed lands. The wall stands over 50 feet high and is topped with a complex array of battlements and guard posts. Immediately behind the wall is an open space often used for military parade and serves as a secure buffer between the wall and the city itself. On the northern side of the city is a small harbour with a port, well equipped to defend itself and to equip and repair naval vessels. A small island with a fortified lighthouse sits in the middle of the harbour. The centre of town has a large ornate square with statues of important historical figures and the founders of the city as well as Bruno Khurabil, first prince of the principality. The centre of the city contains the most expensive and opulent houses and businesses, mostly lined along the main road coming in from the western city wall where the main gate connects that road with The Beltway, the large trade road that leads west to Battervold, Confluence, and eventually Port Zaram.

The southern area of the city contains more middle- and upper-class buildings and is the home of merchants and artisans.

The city is very martial and is ruled by Elector Brek Warkley of Esterreach. Lord commander of Steinwark. Brek runs the city with a strong emphasis on the military organisation of the city and the manning of the wall.

Demographics

Steinwark is largely populated with Humans with prominent populations of Gnomes, Dwarves and Halflings. Though still rare, Steinwark hosts one of the most prominent populations of both Goliaths and Orc in Khurabil Region.

Defences

The primary defence of Steinwark is the massive eastern Shield Wall. The wall is made up of an outer and an inner wall separated by a moat with several bridges spanning the gap between the walls. Both walls are constantly manned and are over 10 feet thick, wider at the base. Each wall has a series of towers along it used as focuses for communication and supplies.

The Beacon Lighthouse in Rockreach Harbour also provides a highly defensible position as well as provide a guide for shipping.

Around the western and northern edge of Steinwark is another lesser stone wall that connect to the Great Shield Wall in the east. The wall has a series of guard towers and a wide gate way in the middle of the western wall where it meets the Beltway.
